On the Looker for a Hooker!

It seems to me that we have a glaring gap/opportunity for a replacement hooker to be developed for the post-Bedsy era. From my recollection Danny has 2 years on this contract and he has hinted it may be his last. With all of the forward strength coming up from Flegg, I think we are in desperate need for a ball-playingh hooker. IMO Brown does not have the potential. Quigs is a plugger but not of the standard we need. Do you know of anyone on the horizon Roops? The problem we would have that recruiting a hooker to be prepared to play in Premiers League and bide his time would be difficult. With that being the case maybe we should be looking at a development player with more potential than Brown. I hope we are not forced into a management by crisis approach like we have done in the past (who could forget the reynoldson recruitement debarcle) and I do think this is something we should be addressing in season 2007.:?

A few years ago it was our strongest position in the juniors.
Nathan Berry was a great prospect, but he just seemed to lose interest and dropped out of the club last season.
David Sainty got the coach's award for Ball the year we won the title - and I see he played for the CC rip this season. Maybe he would be a good buy next year.
Our hooker in Flegg is Terrence Seu Seu who is a makeshift hooker who played fullback last season. He is doing a good job, but probably needs to have another year in the job. His backup is a guy we brought up from Lakes United named Mitch Bowe. He will be too old for Flegg next season and has been good in the games he has played.
All in all - some young guys with promise - but no Ennis, or even a Berry.

The utility player we bought for PL this year - Thurston - did a fair job filling in for Quigs at hooker when he was out injured.

Thanks Roops. Do you think, like I, that we have a problem on the horizon with the hooking position?
Yes - when we had Quigley, Ennis and Berry all looking like they were probable firstgraders you would have said it was the last position to worry about - but Quigs is small and injury prone because of it - and the others are gone.
Calling up Mitch Bowe from Lakes to play Flegg with only one year of junior footy in him shows how bare the ranks are.
Having said that - I'd give David Sainty a run in PL next season. I think he left the club because we had so much talent at hooker, and i think this was his last year of Flegg for the Rip.

I wonder what happened with Berry and the club. I notice that Berry played in the real NRL this year.

We lose a bit of his running at hooker, but i'd be interested to see how he went. We could always just buy a bignamer when Danny goes, needless to say we'd have a bit to spend..

That might work Alex. The major problem that I see is that Kidley not being a playmaker seems to struggle most when he is called upon to make decisions. I think that is why he has looked a much better player at fullback. Then again he was not put under much real pressure in his last 2 games at fullback and when he was in his previous stint in that job he wasnt too flash. He is a very solid support player and if anything I can se him at centre or maybe lock. I think I have talked myself out of the idea- bad suggestion Alex!

Signing 5 year contracts is a silly idea, specially when your as young as, and have as much improvement left, as Ennis

Kidley seems destined for a position in the backs - but not at fullback. He has centre written all over him - particularly with the glaring shortage we will have next year.

I suspect Danny will sign for another few years at the end of this contract any way - he'll be too young to retire. If he decides to give away rep footy then and concentrate on the Knights - then even better!

I don't know if Smith will change the policy - but Steve Crowe seems to be very keen to re-sign guys who were Knights juniors - which means guys like Anthony Tupou, Michael Ennis, Ben Farrer, Jhi Tanner, Dane Tilse, Morris, Jermaine Ale - guys like that would be top of our list to sign.

Ennis is only signed for the 2007 year but I doubt we would get him back whilst Buderus is playing.

As a smokey, I would go for Matt Lockyer. Yep Darren's younger brother. He would come cheap, has a great passing game, can move out of dummy half and can kick. Plus he has utility value as he can play anywhere in the backs as well. He seems to have been snubbed because he is not as good as his brother ( but then who is).

As I said he would come real cheap, whilst he would be 27? he would be a good back up to Buderus and worth a shot if he is still interested.

I think Seu Seu will be a good bench player to have in the future in FG because he can cover a few positions, and is quick out of dummy half
