SGI seems to stacked to the gunnels with small, brilliant attacking players who can't defend-namely Dufty, Field and Sailor- although Tristan pulled off a good tackle at full back last Saturday so it may be unfair to label him prematurely. Agree he is too small for full-back. I have advocated in the past that Dufty and Field should have been developed as our future halves after the ageing (and overrated in my opinion) Norman and Hunt move on. We can now add Sailor to that new breed of halves mix. Also, there is no future in Nicholls at 30 as the back up half so hopefully he is allowed to leave at the end of the season.
I think Dufty played most of his juniors in the halves. It would be interesting seeing him play halfback or 5/8. I agree with you about Nicholls, but I did see possible benefit of having an experienced halfback in CC to help with the development of our other young players in CC.

I agree that we need some experienced mentors to bring the younger crop through. Nicholls doesn't fit the bill though. We would be better offloading him, use his money to strengthen the squad and bring in "consultants" (the likes of Cronk, either of the Johns or Kimorley) to work with the kids and this would have a bigger impact on development and also sit out side the salary cap.

And maybe someone like Trevor Gllmeister to teach them how to tackle

Play of the year | Jackson Ford grabs his first NRL try
St George Illawarra Dragons rookie Jackson Ford not only earned an NRL debut in 2019, but also opened his try-scoring account thanks to a surprising kick from Euan Aitken.

I rate Ford very highly and believe one day in the near future, he will represent the Blues at SOO level. Whether it be in the backrow or in the centres only time will tell.

I'd like to see Ford partner Ramien in the centres in season 2020. He is fast, a good defender and has a very good pass. It is now time for Aitken and Lafai to fade into the distance.

Ford would be a good choice for left centre. He is quick with a good set of hands and very good defence. Lafai to reserve grade.
I agree that he would. I think they will start him on the bench as a utility forward which will be so handy after having the likes of Dufty, Aitken and Field there recently. But an injury early one game will see him move there and if he plays well he could cement himself there for a while.

St George Illawarra have announced that back-rower Jackson Ford has re-signed with the Dragons for a further two seasons.

Ford's extension will see him remain at the Red V until at least the end of the 2022 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

The Gerringong Lions junior's retention was due reward following an outstanding 2019 campaign that included his first grade debut and being named the club's Canterbury Cup NSW Player of the Year.

The softly spoken 22-year-old was excited to continue his rugby league journey at the Dragons.

"To re-sign with the Dragons for a further two years after playing all my juniors here and making my first grade debut is very pleasing. Even better I'll get to remain close by to my family which is massive for me," Ford said.

"I had a good taste of the NRL last year and it's really made me hungry to get back on the field. It's disappointing that there's no reserve grade this year so it means I have to train hard to ensure I get to play consistent footy in 2020."

Director of Rugby League Pathways and List Management Ian Millward said Ford was viewed as a long-term Dragon.

"We're very pleased to lock up such a talented player, and hopefully down the line, one of the better players in the NRL," Millward said.

"Since his progression from our pathways system to the NRL squad, the coaching staff have held an excitement over Jackson's physical presence at training and look forward to seeing that translate on the field in due time.

Millward added: "We're still in the market for another back-rower to complement the likes of Tariq Sims, Tyrell Fuimaono and now Jackson, who are all signed for the coming seasons."
