Gotta give Guptil credit for turning the IPl down to play County Cricket to try and improve his game.

YES.

Our top 4 batsmen annoy me so much. McCullum, Guptill, Ryder, Taylor (especially)- so much potential, so little patience.

From an outsiders perspective i reckon you've got 2 world class test players ATM..Vettori & Bracewell..

I'd say Vettori is world class.

McCullum, Taylor and Ryder have the potential, but lack the application.

Bracewell and Williamson could be right up there in the future, but have a way to go at the moment. Perhaps Southee too.

There's a few others on the cusp (such as Wagner), but we'll have to see if they deliver.

I just don't see it with Williamson..But then again i don't see as much of him as you do..

Bracewell is your Patto or Cummins..If he stays in one piece & away from IPL he could be as good for you as Hadlee..or maybe just below him if what i've said is sacreligious in NZ..:p:D

I'd like Williamson to bat at 6. I think that's the best spot for him for now. The problem there is that he's got some competition now in Brownlie.

I disagree. I believe a player of his stature and calibre should be batting 3. His ravishing strokeplay and thirst for big hundreds will be wasted batting so low.

I can understand why you are pessimistic about Williamson. He has been talked up and hasn't delivered at the highest level yet. But he's only 21. He's as good as we've got domestically. He's got loads of potential. He'll get there. He won't be a Bradman. I doubt he'll be a Crowe. But he could be a world class player in the future.

Anyway, I suspect Williamson will be batting at 3 v Zimbabwe. Either him, or Waitling. But probably Williamson. Waitling will be 12th man- sensational fielder.

I just don't think he's ready for 3. Given the frequency with which we lose an opener in the first few overs, we need a batsmen at 3 who can withstand some pressure and I don't think that's Williamson. I'd rather see a bit of pressure relieved from him and I see 6 as being the spot for him until he well and truly finds his feet.

He's trolling. He got pissy because I dared to say Williamson has more potenntial than Khawaja so now he does this sort of thing. Plus he's a Raiders fan.

Right.

I suspected as much with his Bradman comment, but thought I'd treat him as if troll was the highest station in life that he could reach

6 or more good years left in him then..

You guys would be putting a fair bit of hope in you Seth Efrikan imports i suppose..

Southee is another that needs to pull his socks up..My kiwi mates were talking him up 3 or 4 years back, but i've never seen him perform in tests..20/20 i have, but not the important stuff..

Again, Southee just hasn't played enough Tests because we haven't . And he's played too much T20, because we have too. Add to that injury and you can see why he hasn't come on as quickly as he should have...and why Chris Martin is still our premier Test quick(ish) bowler. It's a sorry state of affairs.

Our bowling attack isn't a sad state of affairs, say what you want but Chris Martin is still a pretty good international bowler. Reliable and does his job well and then around him you have Southee, Boult, Bracewell and Wagner. It's a good state of affairs if anything.
