Eddie- I don't think our attack is streets ahead of the pop gun attack it has been since we've been Bond-less. Encouraging signs for the future perhaps, but not out of the woods yet.

It's in a better state than has been for the last 5 years anyway, younger with more potential for starters and slowly building some depth.

I hold high hopes for Wagner and Boult, that they may develop into fast bowlers capable of intimidating batsmen. Although I think T20 is steering cricket towards the predominance of spin and medium pace bowling, I still think there's something wonderful about genuinely frightening fast bowlers. We haven't had one since Bond.

What does Wagner get clocked at? He's around low 140's isn't he?

I have heard that said about him despite his good figures. What about makes you think he is overrated? Have you seen much of him bowl?

Yeah seen a bit of him. Gets wickets in domestic cricket but goes for plenty at the same time. Not overly quick either. Also turns to shit when the ball gets old.

I think thats a pretty harsh assessment, seen him bowl a couple types in person and quite a lot on tv. He has a bit of pace, well at least the same as Southee, Boult etc and while he does have the odd game where he can go for a few in main he has been reasonably economical and has a great average. Plus he can bat a bit which is always useful, there is no doubt in my mind that he should be there or there abouts come Apiril. I'm only thinking of in the sense of the Test side not the ODI side at this stage.

I still think he's over-rated. People talk about him as if he's the best seamer in the country by a mile when really he's not that good. Can't see him playing anything more that limited overs cricket in the future.

Well Chris Martin will retire most likely after the South African series, around the time he comes eligible so he will be battling it out Trent Boult for a spot in the Test side I'd imagine.

I think Martin still has a bit left in him. He had a good series in Australia so I don't see the need for him to step down just yet, and Boult is better than Wagner imo.

I've been thinking about it the past few days and the Reece Young axing is starting to bother me. I think his form, particularly with the bat, is in a slump. However, he's probably the best gloveman we have.

At first, I thought Waitling was a good experiment and Zimbabwe a great opportunity to experiment. But he is a back-up at best. And there's a big difference between keeping wickets in a domestic T20 (and not that well) and keepin wickets in a Test match. I wish we had a better keeper than Young (aside from McCullum), but we don't. Until we do, Young ought to have kept the job.

Oh well. Hopefully one of these two will step up.

I wouldn't have dropped Young, his 'slump' was 4 failures in the Test Series against Australia when none of our batsmen scored runs.
