Change the board structure or wither and perish. No business will succeed without smart minds at the helm and there is nothing about our leagues clubs that creates expertise so buy it and get it on the board. Football clubs need to be run by guys with backgrounds in business, law, sports administration, marketing, media etc. It can't be determined by free beers and spring rolls. Acknowledge our history, be proud of our roots but accept that stuff as a threat, not just an opportunity.

Get an experienced coach in.
Get rid of more of the dead wood, eg hunt, groat, green, Mathews, ah mau etc.
Get 2-3 decent fwds in who dominate in defence and make metres in attack with strong charges.
Get rid of the stupid sliding and retreating defence and improve line speed and defensive starch that we used to have.
Would be impressed if even one of these happens though!

A fresh approach at the top would be nice. I don't despise Douche like a lot of others on here, but he has been in the job for a long time and appears a little stale. Some fresh blood at the top, and a new coach (from outside the organisation) will invigorate the club, put everyone on notice, and hopefully lead to success in the future.

Re: football team. Sign Tim sheens. Everything else will fall into place.
Re: leagues club/s. Board members/ douche, visit Canterbury leagues, penrith panfers, para leagues. Take plenty of notes. Replicate same at dragons leagues and illawarra leagues. Bring this club into the 21st century ASAP.

All make valid points, but the real question here is, if we all can see the issues within our club and players, why can't they.???????

Man do we need a clean up. To kill a snake, chop the head off.

I don't disagree with you for a change when you put it like that. I think Doust has put in some effort landing Bennett, then just failing with Belamy and Bennett again. We really don't know what goes on behind the scenes or know the budget etc or anticipated signings. I'm all for new blood unless its just for the sake of having new blood

Quite frankly, I thought we were out of contention after the round 14 loss to Penrith. From there, we really couldn't afford to drop more than a couple of games. But hope reigns supreme and we strung a few wins together.

Alas, reality is a cruel bitch. The loss against Manly in round 19 saw her tighten her grip. Then another turn of the vice, and now, well... a truckload of teams just kicked on with another 2 comp points on the ladder and I'm afraid we are well out of it. Not even the inspiration of Bradbury can save us. It sucks.

No doubt there are still those who think we should have faith in the Club board and management - bless their Phar Lap hearts - but when the dust settles on 2014, we will have missed the finals for 3 seasons running.

Such a thing was totally unacceptable when we had the old top five semi-finals system. How our club management can survive this in a top eight system can only be put down to this new age of mediocrity.

Time for another review of all the SYSTEMS and KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS etc etc etc. I doubt that Doust will have the balls to come out and say they have failed miserably in meeting any of their key performance indicators. So much for all their fancy jargon dished out at the end of last season...

try this:

To the board of the St George Illawarra Dragons RLFC

Dear Sirs,

We, the fans, are writing to you today in order to express our current frustrations around the on field performance of the team and the perception of the off field running of the club.

Firstly, we do acknowledge that we do not claim that we have the expertise or experience to run a football club that you all have. However, we believe that as the fans of the club - those who contribute not only one of the leading revenue sources of the club via membership, but also pour countless hours and expense out of our own pockets to make it to the games and make the game day experience what it is - that we deserve a voice into the actions and running of the club.

What we seek is the re-assurance that our concerns are being reviewed and acted upon in a manner that is benefiting all of the club, not just protecting employment for a few.

As paying members and fans of the club, we are seeking the following:
  • Signing of an experienced coach, either as full time coach or in a director role to grow the experience of the incumbent
  • A detailed recruiting strategy for the next 3 years that addresses areas of weakness in both the current playing structure and expected structure in future, bearing in mind contract ending dates and retirements
  • Clear guidelines for measurements of success - both from an on field perspective (for example these could include, making the finals, having a win/loss ration greater than 60%, being in the top 5 teams for attacking and defensive statistics) and from an off field perspective (for example club revenue, effective location for home game splits, development of coaching and support staff)
  • Accountability at all levels for any failure in the above

Whilst these actions may be occurring behind the scenes, they are not currently visible to the club members. This lack of transparency leads to frustration amongst the members and supporters and will have an adverse effect on membership and support in the upcoming years.

We would like this letter tabled to those in power, and would appreciate a response in terms that are digestible by the common fan.

We love the Dragons brand, we love the team, and we love each other. But we do feel as though the current state of affairs is becoming untenable and do not wish to see our proud club continue to dissolve.

Yours faithfully,

All of us.

Great post Muzby.
The sarcasm in the last paragraph may go over their heads.
