Orford Demands Release...

Not saying Murray will be the saviour because there is a hell of a gap between NYC and first grade. But you need to be smart about this and not tie up money that could be used for a younger, better more crudentialled player than Orford in 2012. We would be paying big bucks for based on his reputation, which for me is highly overrated anyway. This bloke would demand $300k plus, aswell as the transfer fee and is no certainty of getting the paddock

If we have the space under the salary cap then why not? There are no top line halfbacks coming off contract for 2012 anyway, so as that's the case you have to make do. If Murray is good enough then he will earn his spot... but until then having a proven and experienced halfback is better than having the rabble in attack that we had all this year. In this day and era good halves are hard to come by, if we can get a semi decent one who may be old but is still up to the task, then I'm all in favour of it.

Why would we need Orford when we have the greatest player ever Humble?

But please, no Orford. Let him go back to Manly.

Can't use the left over cap money the year after so why not sign orford up short term. Some mentioned he's injury riddled. If this is the case then the youngsters will get their chance to impress. Will be better for the to be introduced to the nrl slowly throughout the season. Come on down orford. Better than nothing. Might be surprised what an experienced halve can bring. Something we haven't seen for a while.

Can't believe ppl are complaining about Orford

When was the last time we had an experienced halfback?? Taylor in 2001??? Many ppl were saying the same things when we signed him to what they are saying now about Orford

Stagger posted in another thread that Orford is likely to be our last signing (if it occurs). Do you agree with this, or is there any likelihood of anyone else coming across?

Surely we can't be allowed to remain at $700k under the cap for 2011?

As far as I'm aware, we wont be signing Orford but I was told that about a month ago so who knows if things have changed. Stags could be correct.

Manly have let go Hokko, Bailey, Perry so they have some cash up their sleeve.

Manly always come in with an 11th hour bid.

But the papers are saying us and the Raiders so who knows....

People on here would whinge about their pets not eating their food let alone a Premiership No.7 player who may come to our club.

Don't bother signing a premiership winning experienced 7, keep playing the bloke who was behind for 7 years and even Ox was injured the Beagles didn't always play him.

We have become the most negative fans on this site FMD

What's the harm if we can afford it?

We don't sign him - we have no experienced half.

We sign him and he goes bung - we have no experienced half but maybe a bung half who can teach the youngins while he sits on the sideline.

Even if he goes bung we're still potentially better off.

The difference is the cash. So, once again, if we can afford it then do it.

Orford may not be the greatest but he can certainly give the ball to the right people at the right time and can atually kick the ball into space, heck may be able to kick it into touch on the full if we get a penalty.

Brett Stewart played really well with Orford in control. Hayne > Stewart. Orford will be abe to get our strike players into gaps and keep the defense guessing whereas last season, the defense got in our face, we panicked and played hot potato.

Someone who can put some kind of structure in place and get the ball to the right players at the right time is all we need, and Orford fits that bill nicely. We don't need a crafty world beating halfback, we just need a decent halfback.

We don't need a creative halfback...Just someone who can organize some sh*t.
We already have arguably the most creative player in Hayne, all Hayne and even Morts for that matter needs is some organized set up from a good halfback, I would've been happy if we got Kimmorley, but IMO Orford is better and I'll certainly be happy if we do get him.
I hope we beat the Raiders to him as I hate their guts and they can go grab their wooden spoons next year with McCrone.

 There will be no wooden spoon at the Raiders in 2011. You can bet on that...
Too much pride in the place..
BUT the pundits will still be picking them to run last. Same as they pick NSW to win the SOO..
The Raiders and Qld thrive on the underdog status...LOVE IT..

Thing is, there are a lot of fools like me who can't be bothered waiting one year.
GOD I WANT A BLOODY PREMIERSHIP ALREADY.

If we're 700k under the cap we can offer him a fair bit more than 250k.

I wonder if we could've offered Quade Cooper $500k+ as a signing bonus and have it come out of this year's cap - having him effectively sign with us for this year?

Maybe it's already happened?

What are you on about? Two years ago he won the Dally M Medal and captained his team to a grand final win.

If Manly let him go it's because he would've wanted over half a million to stay.
