Didnt stop the knights winning in 2001. Rudder was the 5/8 and he was just a stop gap.
Orford needed to step and take control. Thats what the big time halfbacks have done over the years, but then Orford keeps proving his not a big time halfback.
I still laugh when he complained about being over looked for origin.

Comparing Johns to Orford?

Sadly i have to agree. It would be a shame to have built such a great team and come away with nothing to show for it because our halfback struggles to shine in the big games.

Put Cronk on Manly's team and Orford on Melbourne's team and Manly would have won by 13+ last night.

Lol you wish MSIH. At full strength with Hunt, Hodges, Lockyer, Wallace and Ennis all on board, I'd put everything I own on us beating Manly. Particularly in a big game when those players mentioned actually step up as opposed to that pretender in your number 7.

 So confident. Very arsey when I look at your pack. Sure your backs are class put the forward pack is lacking.

Orford choked, yet again in My book.

When the big play was needed, he didn't produce it.

End of story.

Do it then. You've mentioned a few times that you arn't scared of manly at all, and now you make this grand claim. Go for it mate, make some money. You seem quite sure of yourself so go ahead and double your money (because manly would be favourites, I wonder why?). Imagine it, everything you own doubled up in 80 minutes it will be a great day for you.

Bout you won't do it so STFU

Did you just compare orford to team of the century halfback, and, in many peoples opinion, the best player in history?

ok hands up who has watched every manly game since orford has arrived? i know i have, sure he was off last night, but im sick to death when manly is winning, u dont hear sh*t about orford being a choker, as soon as they lose a game, out come all the idiots with "awful is crap" etc
the storm have how many kicking options in there team? cronk, inglis, smith, now how many did manly have? orford and thats it, cut the guy some slack.
Like ive said ive watched every manly game, infact i doubt ive missed one manly game the last 10 years, and to me im happy with him being at our club.

Whilst orford is not in the same league as him, alot of people (god knows why) rate Orford. I was making a point that you dont need 1000 kicking options to win a game/comp. Look at the Broncos of 2006. Had Shane Perry at halfback....not the greatest kicker of all time....ditto for Berrigan as hooker.
Orford had the chance to step up as his forwards created plenty of room for him and he FAILED to deliver.
Orford is not a big time player and it was once again proven on the big stage on Friday night.
Whilst ever Orford is there, there will be no glory for Manly. It was no coincidence that when Orford left the Storm they went on a tear from 2006 onwards.

Saab you should just compare Orford's performance to that of Cronk on Friday night.

Cronk received no support from his 5/8th and little from his forwards and played a blinder with a hand in all his sides tries.

That's not what most people are talking about. When it comes to the big games, or the big plays. Orford has a record of choking. It was proven in last years Grand Final and it was proven again Friday night.

I personally am not arguing that he is not a good half-back, because I know he is, but when he is required to step up in the most crucial games - he doesn't.

Fair point indeed. Inglis & Smith were MIA (good defence from the eagles) yet Cronk was able to step up and delivered.
Orford....a good 1st grader, but not a big time halfback.

The problem is they are relying on Orford to produce all the big game plays, and he can't. He needs some help in the halves, ie a 5/8

It's pretty hopeless for Manly.. they are playing for runners up

That's a mighty big call. I honestly don't see much difference between the two sides. Orford might not have a great record of performing in big games, but he has managed to do it on occasion, eg Cowboys semi last year. There was very little difference between the two teams - some say Melbourne didn't play that well, but i think they played as well as Manly allowed them. All it would take is for 2 of Ox's kicks to have been better placed and led to tries and the result would have been different. Thats not even considering the three 50/50 calls that didn't go our way that led to 2 Melbourne tries and 1 of ours disallowed. Not moaning about those decisions mind, just further highlighting how little there was beteen the two teams.

Ox is definitely playing injured
but in saying that if Todd Carney was the HB we would be near unbeatable

orford is a one man band - put a decent 5/8 outside him to take of the pressure and he will perform well.

at the moment the opposition pressure him as they know he is getting the ball every time a kick or big play needs to be made.
