Is the AFL stepping in again before ASADA, just like Essendon did (thanks to the AFL) before the Blackest Day.

They are sly buggers if you ask me.
Waiting for ASADA to finish their report would be like waiting for Harold Holt to come home

No, ASADA only issue infraction notices and provide their evidence to the sports governing body, who then put in place a tribunal to hear the cases.

But the ASADA investigation remains ongoing.
"In relation to the Essendon players I can advise that although WADA has declared AOD9604 is a banned substance, on the information currently before the AFL there is no specific anti-doping rule violation attributed to any individual player for the use of AOD9604 or any other prohibited substance," Dillon said.
Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar.

"As such at the present time there will be no infraction notices issued under the AFL anti-doping code.
"I note the investigation into Essendon's 2011-12 supplements program by ASADA and the AFL remains open and could lead to further charges under the AFL rules against other individuals."

so no evidence players have done anything wrong yet evidence the clubs management has? Makes no sense at all!

They've only bought the game into disrepute, probably no big deal in the scheme of things.

A way to make a stand but not.....

There will be high fives and slaps on the back by AFL HQ right now, but WADA will be waiting in the wings and will come down hard on them if ASADA won't

I agree. This is going to be diabolically difficult to argue.
Not tricky at all imo.

The Essendon players were allegedly caught up in a club-endorsed systematic scheme of long term use of banned drugs, a scheme reportedly much more intensive than anything Dank provided to his club employers in rugby league. They can all point the finger at/sue the club if any of them cop a suspension/loss of income.

The difference with certain rugby league players is that even after Dank was in club-sponsored positions some individuals allegedly continued to visit Dank and allegedly be supplied with the banned drugs as individuals. So in rugby league once the interviews, investigation and report come in, the players concerned cannot point the finger at their clubs for the actions they took outside of any club schemes as individuals. Suspensions aplenty to come!

Ummm... Their captain admitted to taking it on national tv ffs.
But perhaps it is not viewed as an individual violation, if taken in the context of a club-sponsored scheme with assurances from club employees that it was legit.

Very different to what might await rugby league players of interest if found that they visited Dank as individuals for the same substance, after his official involvement with their clubs had ceased.

No problems with that, but the AFL bit gets messy in that ignorance is no defence for WADA. That is why I think this has a long, long way to go.

I think we are generally agreeing with each other to be honest.
