Sad but not surprising reflection on todays journalism and gutter press. Cancer Council have refuted any known link, end of story. Time for a 1inch retraction on page 5 no doubt.

How fcking stupid are Cronulla? Surely you would have got expert medical opinion before even suggesting any kind of possible link and committing it to a report?

Still doesn't justify giving a cancer survivor any form of unauthorised treatment (non-approval from his specialist), if true.

You pricks on here are kidding - the real issue here (if true) is who gave a cancer survivor a treatment that was not part of authorised treatment by cancer specialists/experts?

You are still blaming the sheriff who rides into town after the bank is robbed, not the outlaws. FFS

Cronulla hired the ex-ASADA official of their own accord.

Well no one knows whether the issue is true or false,IOW let due process take its course, anmd that means the D.T should have shut the F up,until all facts and figures are laid out at the end of the investigation.
The D.T think they are Wyatt Earp, truth and justice, when it fact at times nothing more than muck rakers.Their attitude gotta sell papers regardless of the full facts.

In typical media fashion they have not considered the innocent and the most emotionally affected parties.
If anyone believes a semi govt dept or body does not have someone capable of opening their gobs out of order, they are deluded.Canberra has more leaks than Sydney water pipes.I do not discount any leaks from anyone, but ASADA employess are after all human.

I don't know if any leak has come from ASADA. They were quietly investigating for a year and a half without a single leak to the media before Lundy and Co called the press conference

One could reasonably conclude there was not a great deal to leak

And ex asada employees seem to me to be quite fond of a microphone and their new found importance

That's where there'd have to be a line drawn in the sand, if true. I just hope for leagues sake that none of it is true, but lordy mercy me, I'd ethically be opposed to giving a cancer survivor with a decent chance of remission anything that isn't sanctioned through his own medical people. Surely to heck no one was dumb enough to do that though.

That's the point,you or I don't know.But leaks happen in big companies,the the law,govt depts,stockmarkets..Nothing can be discounted.
what happened 12 months ago is irrelevant ,since the open announcement by the Govt.People now more au fait and obviously asking more questions.there is a saying "the walls have ears."

The best thing about this thread is that everyone is hammering the journo's for being grubs. But nobody is talking about anything that isn't linked to the media, and the website won't let you post anything unless you can link it to the media. So everyone is hanging out waiting for the media to say something or report something so that they can link it here and then call it valid or crap.
The irony is delicious.

Unfortunately kavanagh did not have time to ask manahs doctors or the cancer council

She did manage to find an obscure 40 year out of date minor German paper that merely asked for funding to support her implied concusions

Full media release from Parramatta:

STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF TIM MANNAH

“On behalf of my family I would like to say how disappointed we all are by the reports that have been published today.

My brother Johnny was a wonderful man and never ever would have knowingly consented to taking a banned substance, in fact he was very careful about everything he did that may affect his health. Johnny’s integrity in the way he lived his life speaks for itself. We have no need to defend that.

My Family and I would also like to use this opportunity to offer our full support to Trent Elkin. Trent has had a long and trusted relationship with me, my brother and our family and what has transpired over the last day has not changed that. We know Trent does not condone the use of illegal substances and would have never knowingly done anything that would cause one of his players or Jon for that matter harm.

Despite how saddened we are by these recent reports, our faith will see us through.

In celebrating my brother Johnny’s life we have made every attempt to be open with everyone. We would ask at this time that the media please respect our privacy.

Thank you.”

Tim Mannah will be making no further comment on this matter at this stage.

The man died for Christ's sake. This needs to be discussed. It can't just be swept under the carpet in some childish debate between NRL and AFL. Both codes are in the shit. The NRL vs AFL bickering should cease and what has gone on get cleared up.

At the rate we are going this years premiership won't be worth winning.

Only 31 suspects for this particular bank though.

Anyway, Tim Mannah has just refuted pretty much everything reported today.

Did he?

He spoke honestly and said that his brother would never knowingly take a banned substance. I'm certain the boys would not cheat and I'm sure that's the common view. I don't think anyone would seriously think that either of them would knowingly take PED's.

From what I've read of this drug saga over the past few months, one of the gravest concerns is that players may have been given stuff without knowledge.

I'm don't know how Tim would know what Jon had been given, if Jon didn't know himself.

Did Cullen ok this report? if he did then he needs a rocket from the sharks board. Surely you would want some pretty conclusive evidence of both Mannah's useage and clear medical evidence of cause and effect before you would put it in writing in a report, even if it was just speculative. in fact the very fact it was sepcualtive would make you not put it out there i would have thought?
