It would be interesting to know what peoples opinion on his matter would be if there wasn't an AFL club also involved in the scandal. Most of the time, 95% of posters on here couldn't give a f**k about what happens in AFL.

As an Eels supporter, I'd be outraged if the Sharks were allowed to get away with a systematic doping regime (albeit a short one) as has been alleged, just like as a Hawks supporter I'd be outraged if Essendon got away with their drugs program.

Is it really acceptible for a club in the NRL to cheat and get away with it, purely because a team from a "rival" code did the same thing and got away with it? I think the real issue is being lost in the inter-code rivalry.

dunno... but how on earth are Manly not under the same scrutiny?
They had the same dude ( Dank ) are their joint for years didn't they.

Fair point carch. I does seem like the Sharks are seen as the easy target within the NRL. Maybe they were better at keeping records or slower at shredding them compared to other clubs.

We were under scrutiny.

Could still be.

You never know for sure.

I am not having a go at Manly really ...just questioning why the media have gone gang busters at the Sharks .

I am assuming they probably did take some stuff...probably through ignorance more than deception.

But ...I find it impossible to think that Dank wasn't running a similar show at Manly.

I recall hearing about cows blood injections or some shit years ago at Manly...when Dank would have been employed there.
Also..
The fact that Essendon were going to get this secret different deal ....makes it all very sus.

ASADA investigated Manly over the calves blood back in 08

The former chief executive of ASADA, Richard Ings, confirmed that the body had investigated the Sea Eagles as far back as 2008 - following revelations that the club was using Actovegin, a calf-blood extract, on its players.

''The techniques that were being used were examined at the time and they were found not to be banned under the World Anti-Doping Agency code,'' Ings said.

No one wants to see cheats get away with it; but a clumsy, biased process will do exactly that.

People have every right to be scrutinise how ASADA have handling this investigation.

Real issue not lost.

Regardless of what happens in the AFL, any club cheating should have the book thrown at them. If my club, the Warriors was caught cheating then I'd expect the same. We started on -4 competition points in 2006 and that was no ones fault but ours.

If a club (NRL or AFL) is caught cheating and only gets a slap over the wrist for it then every other fan of all codes should rightly be pissed off and demand further punishment.

Whether it be salary cap, drug, fixing or another type of cheating severe punishments need to be handed out to prevent it happening again

It is lost on you and your gang, gagger (you old cigar smoker).

Re: other posts - about 2 months ago, it was reported Toovey was interviewed by ASADA; so Manly is not in the clear.

Because the issues are mostly related to the S0 part of the code which wasn't in force when Dank was employed by Manly.
This isn't an AFL vs League thing to me. I'd be just as outraged if Manly were offered a cushy deal and Cronulla weren't. It's about equality of treatment. What makes it even more outrageous is that Dank only lasted 7 weeks at Cronulla vs 12 months at essendon. Not to mention the pr campaign to paint Cronulla as the bad guys for not confessing like Essendon, now we know why essendon players have been so keen to talk and admit to using drugs.

The Victorian media support & protect their game whereas the Sydney media like to kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

Call me a cynic, but what if a certain select Victorian media identities knew of this deal from AFL HQ, then were instructed to run this "good and evil" style campaign with Essendon and Cronulla trying to pressure them into rolling over, then once they got banned heavily and the AFL blokes didn't they relentlessly push the difference in punishments whilst painting AFL as "clean" and NRL as "tainted".

Far fetched? Well the media's already doing the first part. Whether they have inside info or not of course we can't be totally sure.

FFS. If the players took the stuff but were assured it was clear and approved then fine, either clear them or give them 6 months and let the club deal with it's responsibilities to the players, but f**king never let those that were suppose to be looking after their well being have an involvement in sport again.

Players may be stupid or naive but the real cheats here are the scum that gave them stuff that wasn't approved yet assured the players it was.

What is a payer to do, test themselves?

Don't kid yourselves, players at every club trust their support staff. Well have, until now!

It emerged yesterday the Bombers have engaged a public relations expert, Elizabeth Lukin of Essential Media Communications, to help manage the crisis at Windy Hill.

James Hird's own legal team is also being advised by leading spin doctor Ian Hanke.

"I run Media and Political Counsel and I have been advising Mr Hird's legal advisers, Ashurst, on media and communications strategy over the past weeks," Hanke said yesterday.

Lukin has been linked to Essendon since the drugs scandal erupted in February, helping shape the messages coming out of the stricken club.
