As the ACC has fairly broad access to phone tapping; I wonder if they have the phone conversation between Evans and Demetriou recorded.

It would be massive if this was the case.

Depends if you call being ethical amateur? Obviously underhanded is not amateur.

Just maybe the AFLs approach might not be as professional as 1 might think!!

look who Demetriou has links to http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...government-favours-for-afl-20100523-w40j.html

Rugby league officials have been aware for some time of the discussions between NSW Minister Ian MacDonald and AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou, saying they have jointly convinced Premier Kristina Keneally of the showground investment.

the ICAC should haul his arse in too

Vlad's defence is straight out of the Craig Thomson booklet.

You shouldn't have been telling clubs you had been talking with the ACC & ASADA period Vladdy, it doesn't matter if you didn't know who the club was. (questionable as we know he has CLOSE links to the ALP and in particular the Sports Minister at the time Kate Lundy)

The Darkest day in Victorian sporting history.

I hope the media down there break the AFL shackles and let fly with the truth and report everything

Sounds to me that if all the above is true then charges should be laid. Perhaps this investigation may do more harm to the AFL

Where is your proof (references) for this statement or is just your liberal party viewpoint.

It's almost as if some people have totally ignored all the things that have happened the past six months and are now only just beginning to join the dots. Anyone who didn't think the AFL tipped Essendon off had their head up their arse. Not only that, but people have whinged and bitched about the way the NRL have handled this and about the Sharks players being less than forthcoming and stonewalling ASADA yet the AFL have dictated to ASADA telling them when the MUST have their investigation finished and handed back to the teacher (Demetriou). Who the f**k do they think they are???? A lot of this still stinks.

Certainly is massive pressure on Demetriou now. Will he let the pigeons loose if it all gets too messy and drag people from other organisations with him?

Vlad and the boys have been throwing their weight around Government, the media and at other sports (particularly ours eg Folau and Hunt) for some time now.

I said here about a year ago it would eventually come back and bite their smug asses. History proves it always does.

This is a lot of fun to watch. Seeing bullies get their comeuppance is very satisfying.

ASADA probe to reach World Cup

by: Brent Read
From: The Australian
July 26, 2013 12:00AM

THE ongoing Australian Sports Anti-doping Authority investigation has the potential to disrupt the game's showpiece international event, the World Cup.

Sources close to ASADA yesterday confirmed to The Australian that the investigation was likely to stretch well beyond the end of the NRL finals series.

That means the World Cup could take place, albeit in Europe, as the investigation reaches its conclusion, with the potential issuing of infraction notices against any players implicated.

It could also cause headaches for some of the countries involved, given the vast majority of the players expected to take part will come from the NRL.

The NRL last night confirmed that the 30 players required for interviews had scheduled meetings with ASADA investigators, as had support staff.

The interviews are expected to be completed by August 28, at which point ASADA will begin compiling information and making recommendations.

The process could be even more elongated should players appeal against any decisions. While the process edges towards reignition with the recommencement of interviews, it isn't all doom and gloom.

Three of the 14 Cronulla players who attended a meeting regarding the ASADA investigation earlier this year discovered they would not be required for ASADA interviews.

In effect, it means the trio have been cleared of any suspicion. Chad Townsend, Ricky Leutele and Sam Tagataese were among those who congregated at Sharkies Leagues Club when news broke of the ASADA investigation. All three were at the club in 2011, the year which is the primary focus of the ASADA investigation.

In particular, ASADA is concerned with the time in 2011 when sports scientist Stephen Dank was working with the Sharks players.

Tagatese joined the club after Dank had been shown the door while Townsend and Leutele were not involved with the NRL squad during Dank's tenure.

The Sharks are the only club accused of systematic use of supplements -- 10 of their players are required for ASADA interviews.

Global expert to guide inquiry

by: Brent Read
From: The Australian
July 27, 2013 12:00AM

THE Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority could send transcripts of player interviews to world-renowned anti-doping lawyer Richard Young as part of its investigation into supplement use across the NRL.

Young, who played a key role in the prosecution of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong and sprinter Marion Jones, has taken on a consultancy role with ASADA.

ASADA yesterday declined to reveal whether Young would fly to Australia to take part in the interview process, which will begin in earnest again next week.

However, it is understood ASADA could send Young transcripts of the interviews as it seeks his advice on how to deal with the ongoing investigation.

Young is an expert on the World Anti-Doping Agency code and has both represented and prosecuted cases of doping.

The Weekend Australian revealed earlier this year that leading ASADA officials had travelled to the US to pick the brain of Young as it attempted to fortify its case against those implicated in the current investigation.

It is understood that relationship is ongoing and a source close to ASADA confirmed that Young could advise on aspects of the investigation -- from interviews to presenting cases at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

It is believed Young could also review transcripts of interviews with relevant players. ASADA is scheduled to begin interviews with 30 NRL players and support staff on August 1.

The process is expected to end by August 28.

Great lengths are being taken to ensure secrecy. It is understood ASADA has declined to notify the players or their legal representatives where the interviews will take place.

That information is likely to be passed on at the last minute to avoid the sort of sideshow that followed Cronulla back-rower Wade Graham earlier this year.

Graham is the only player to have been interviewed by ASADA thus far.

Interviews were halted after his appearance as ASADA became frustrated with the lack of co-operation from the Sharks players.

However, they will begin again next week and the NRL will take a more hands-on role.

An NRL official will sit in on all interviews.

Aside from the Cronulla players who have been identified, the remaining 16 or so players required for interviews remain largely anonymous.

The process is expected to continue throughout the NRL finals and into the post-season, which threatens to take some of the gloss off the upcoming World Cup.

ASADA is particularly concerned with the activities of sports scientist Steve Dank, who is expected to be interviewed.

Under legislation due to take imminent effect, persons can be fined more than $5000 a day for refusing to co-operate with ASADA.

Meanwhile, Sharks five-eighth Todd Carney is in doubt for tomorrow's game against Penrith at Remondis Stadium as he struggles with a sternum injury.

Should he play, the former NSW No 6 is likely to wear protective padding over his sternum and may need a pain-killing injection.

The Sharks are already minus Luke Lewis (calf).

Captain Paul Gallen took part in training this week but is not expected to play as he continues his recovery from a foot injury.

The Essendon CEO resigning is the biggest indicator yet that ASADA are about to drop the hammer. He's obviously been made privy to what they're going to unleash and he's getting the f**k out of dodge before the shitstorm arrives on Monday.
