Why are the media so slow on the up take on this.

It's quite simple really.

AFL do nothing wrong - untouchable, NRL "criminals".

The Melbourne media protect their game. The Sydney media attack their game & make it more effective by making out the AFL is clean, to "highlight" a gulf between the 2 codes.

Arseholes!

Get a load of this. And we thought we were in trouble.

Maybe the good guys (AFL) bad guys (NRL) media spin might take a bit of a turn now

Someone or something had to tip the Bombers off, their announcement came out of nowhere and if it was Vladdy as this article would indicate he has surely breached the ACC confidentiality clause which should see him being hauled up for questioning by that body.

I still think there's a chance Vladdy and the AFL Commission could pull the ultimate swindle and just leave the WADA code, they'll lose some government funding and probably won't be allowed to play that silly game against the Irish at the end of the year but that's about it, the problem goes away and a few years down the track under a new CEO they'll negotiate a way to rejoin and everything will be forgotten and forgiven.

The way Essendon fessed up just before ASADA came out with the allegations always stunk.

This is bloody marvellous to watch.

It appears that this Club may have been tipped off by somebody, and then a sweet heart deal was attempted with ASADA to get the players and Club off without penalty.

If true, this reveals the pure bloody arrogance of Vlad and his mob.

They have had the easiest media ride in Australia's sporting history. They have had puff pieces through out the media for any number of years now by a gullible and lazy media.

Player indiscretions have simply disappeared from the media and blokes like Sheedy and Maguire make remarks either racist of borderline racist and get away with it.

Now the poop has hit the fan. Sit back and enjoy!

Genuine questions - If he wasn't employed by the Sharks then what was he doing there for so many months? Who was paying him?

he was employed at the time the photos were taken

you are as thick as Julia

Maybe you're the one who is thick. In the ABC article I linked too on my earlier post a Sharks spokesperson said he was never employed by the Sharks or paid any money by them. But he wouldn't be doing it for free so someone had to pay him and also invite him into the sheds wearing official Sharks clothing

Your ignoring the part where they said he wasn't employed or paid by them. Which then led to my question of who was paying him because he wouldn't do it for free

ask Dank, not me

He was not employed. He was brought in on a supernumery basis by Elkin the Snitch to assist his fitness program. His hope was to gain a contract eventually. It didn't eventuate. He wouldn't of been doing it for free either but any payments would of been from persons who used his services but not from the club as an employee.

Thanks Frenzy that was all I was trying to find out.

Listen f**kwit, you claim that Master's broke the story about Cronulla's players being offered a deal by ASADA weeks ago (with ASADA's counsel quitting due to the deal differing from Essendon). Remember that goose.

But, Gallen has denied any deal being offered. Please explain that, you goose.

Gallen himself stated on the big breakfast show (or what ever its called) that indeed it was discussed. That they were offered 6months, would still be paid, blah, blah blah. He stated that they considered it, but on basis that they didn't have a clue what they were suppose to have done wrong and still doesn't believe they have. He said he hadn't read that drivel in the Tele ( not his words) but would be checking it out.

I think from memory he said that then the deal with Essendon came out.

Not happy as he insists they as players did nothing wrong.

Now it may be naive or some might consider stupid, but if your club is giving the players supplements, players follow instructions.

Am over all this shit, just give our guys and Essendon 6 months and let the worlds of footy get on with it.

I actually think Masters came in after Keith Wards initial press conference. Ward gave hints there had been an offer made then. This was March 8th. He mentions players being paid. He mentions 6 month for offering substantial assitance

Approximately 4.45 minutes in.

If the tip off is proved to have happened, other than Andy, who else should be rolled. I think Essendon being caught out should be suspended for 2 seasons but that won't happen. As it was said before the AFL will no longer associate itself with ASADA/WADA and then have a few years out then come back into the WADA fold with a new CEO

It does read like that. 2 days before the big darkest day in sports press conference, Essendon come "clean" and "self report". It's not like ASDA hadn't been investigating for quite some time.

Pride comes before a fall.
But somehow I feel AFL's Labor mates will orchestrate something to save face; I would be very surprised if it comes to AFL disassociating with WADA.

They can't disassociate with WADA if they want govt funding. So if WADA expects sanctions, the AFL will have to dole them out if they want to continue with current funding levels.

Precisely. And where would the AFL be without its hand in the government purse? It's carefully procured family friendly, benevolent image would be for naught.

Actually now I wish the AFL did what they did and got away with it in the short term. Only for WADA to step in and say it's not on.

Things continue to get worse down South!!!

Hird told ASADA Demetriou tipped off Bombers

DateJuly 25, 2013 - 1:45PM

Chief Football Writer for The Age

Demetriou quizzed over Essendon 'tip off'

AFL boss confirms he spoke to Essendon's David Evans before the club reported fears about its supplements program, but denies any wrongdoing. Essendon coach James Hird has been revealed as the key witness who claimed that AFL boss Andrew Demetriou had spoken with Bombers chairman David Evans on the eve of the club's decision to self-report about his players' substance use.
Hird is understood to have told the ASADA-AFL investigation that Demetriou called Evans at his home on February 4 during an emergency meeting involving Evans, Hird, former CEO Ian Robson, club doctor Bruce Reid and football boss Danny Corcoran.
The Hird evidence, later corroborated by Corcoran, appears to place the Bombers coach at odds with his chairman, who has denied claims he was tipped off by Demetriou. Ian Robson has backed Evans' version of events.

It has also firmly placed the Hird camp at odds with Demetriou, who has repeatedly denied confirming to Evans that Essendon had an issue with potentially banned substances. Hird's evidence reportedly suggests Demetriou and Evans discussed the club's use of potentially banned substances.

Hird said at training on Thursday: "I was at David's house that night. Myself, Bruce (Reid), Danny (Corcoran), Ian Robson and David were all there and Andrew made a call at some stage in that meeting and the contents of that call were discussed.
"I've told the truth to ASADA and I know other people have as well. That will come out over time."

The AFL chief told 3AW's Neil Mitchell early on Thursday he had returned a call from Evans at about 9 pm but could not have told the Bombers' chairman of an Essendon issue because he had no definitive knowledge of the club's links with dubious drugs.
Demetriou also told Mitchell he had been briefed the previous week by the Australian Crime Commission but that the ACC had refused to detail which AFL clubs faced potential allegations of its players using illicit or banned performance-enhancing substances.
Demetriou said he was, at any rate, legally bound not to disclose information passed on by the ACC. He said the conversation with Evans was one of several during that day which also saw a number of media enquiries forwarded to the club and the AFL seeking clarity on alleged use by Essendon players of banned drugs.
Fairfax Media questioned Essendon that day and the club threatened legal action if the allegations were published in The Age. The allegations were vehemently denied by the club.
It is understood the Demetriou-Evans conversation worried Evans because Demetriou would not directly answer his questions about Essendon nor would he elaborate on what, if anything, he knew or suspected.
On February 5, the club reported itself to the AFL and ASADA. Hird, in a press conference, said he was shocked by the situation Essendon found itself in and said he took full responsibility for the football department's activities.
This is despite the fact he was warned by the AFL in a meeting towards the end of the 2011 season to avoid introducing peptides to his playing group. One month after that warning, Hird's football department employed biochemist Stephen Dank, who introduced an intensive supplements program involving multiple injections administered to players at the club and off-site, as well as intravenous off-site drug treatments.

Great, I hope ASADA/ACC take these Victorian pricks down.

Demetriou certainly has a lot of questions to answer.
