People are starting to shit themselves.

Not least of all John Fahey.

The bloke hasn't had to work since 1984. Now there are sportsmen who are willing to question the role and tactics of the **ADA's.

What next? Accountability? The gravy train might stop. Free travel and tickets to worldwide sporting events are at stake. And the prospect of having to actually do something.

f**k that. No wonder he is worried.

Is this Fahey setting the platform for what will unfold? Essendon to get off because of their apparent co-operation & Cronulla to be dealt with severely because of their lack of co-operation. How can this CEO come out & say he is more & more confident that the players will get off when the supplement is banned? Demetriuo said this weeks ago as well.

Perhaps it is a ruse to placate the AFL in their seemingly poor position.

At the end of the day Dank was with Cronulla for considerably less time than Essendon. They surely are not equal or comparable cases as coverage of the issue would make its seem. ASADA obviously have numerous evidence against Essendon but need the interviews with NRL players to build the case in our game.

Fahey knows this and he needs to appear to be tough on both sports. Even though Cronulla appear to have committed far less wrongdoing than the AFL club.

WADA chief Fahey slams NRL

World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) president John Fahey has launched an astonishing broadside against the NRL after ASADA's interviews with Cronulla players were halted last week.

The former NSW premier has accused the NRL of lacking leadership to deal with the investigation and said the AFL's reaction to the probe, which has engulfed Essendon, was a breath of fresh air in comparison.

ASADA has been probing Cronulla since the investigation was launched in February but was only able to commence interviews with players from the club last Monday.

However, the proceedings were halted following the first interview with Sharks back rower Wade Graham with lawyers from both parties failing to agree on the line of questioning.

More than a week on and the NRL is still investigating the transcript from the interview and Graham could be suspended should it be deemed he failed to cooperate fully with ASADA.

On Monday the Bombers revealed the findings of an internal review conducted by former Telstra chief Ziggy Switkowski, which found an alarming lack of governance over the AFL club's controversial supplements program.

Essendon players will be interviewed by ASADA later this week and Fahey said the AFL had been far more proactive in dealing with the situation than the NRL.

"I believe at the moment as a club and as an administration they've said 'we took our eye off the ball, we didn't do it right. We have to improve,'" Fahey said.

"The AFL has conducted enquires and they've acknowledged they have a problem.

"What a breath of fresh air that is. From what I am seeing as a casual observer that is not happening in Sydney with rugby league."

"I wish I could see the same leadership in Sydney as I see in Melbourne."

Graham was roundly criticised for his casual attire when he attended the meeting and Fahey has voiced his disapproval at the lack of answers from the NRL about why the interviews have been abandoned.

"There's been a profound silence from rugby league in the wake of what followed," Fahey said.

"Information has been given to ASADA by the ACC (Australian Crime Commission) but it must make its own enquiries.

"It sought cooperation from rugby league and from what I can see from the first interview the lawyers there prevented any answers being given.

"So much so, it seems little point in ASADA continuing.

"But the information is not going to go away and it means it will drag on much longer.

"Ultimately it will come home to roost. It took more than two years of forensic information to get Lance Armstrong and he's now viewed as the greatest fraud in sport.

"I'm not suggesting it is a similar problem but rugby league needs to allow this to be properly dealt with and the sooner it will disappear."

Fahey also warned that the wall of silence could have major repercussions for the game.

"There is a risk of complete meltdown if this stonewalling continues," Fahey said.

"Those who are involved could find themselves dealt with more harshly than had they cooperated."

The NRL released a statement responding to Fahey late on Tuesday:

"The seriousness of the matters announced by the ACC has always demanded an ASADA investigation and that is the authority that we support absolutely in this process," it read.

"We are ready to act once ASADA can provide information which would substantiate an infraction notice and they are aware of that fact.

"Our position all along has been that the investigation must be as thorough as the legal process will allow and we continue to assist ASADA just as we have from the outset."

My god, how does bs get traction. Now Kent (how does this game get stuck with such people btw) is going on about the same thing.

The Nrl did an audit of all the clubs mentioned in the report immediately after (or in Cronulla's case, the day before) the press conference. Cronulla commissioned an internal report and actually sacked people on the basis of the findings. How is that not taking action. Meanwhile, Essendon release a report which says they've done nothing wrong, and don't sack anybody. It's just astonishing these people commentating on this issue are ignoring these facts.

I don't buy into conspiracy theories, but jesus people drink the AFL Kool Aid something chronic. That 5M is money well spent.

a deal has been done and they will not be punished

I wonder if Fahey as a RL man is spewing this over the top rhetoric to look impartial?

It makes no sense to me.

I don't post Telucrap articles.
Apparently there is one from Rot-field citing 'Powerful NRL circles' calling for an amnesty for drug cheats.
Such 'powerful circles' include Hadley and Tallis.
The anti Labor, ASADA have nothing, it's all taking too long brigade would have been all over it by now I would have thought.
Someone should do a search and post the link before this one gets removed.

Fahey can f**k off.

The AFL grubs did a deal with the ASADA grubs right at the beginning. They were also tipped off, hence the first Essington press conference.

That's the main issue here and completely ruins the credo of ASADA.

It is not over the top rhetoric. He is the head of WADA. The NRL is causing huge damage to itself and giving the AFL a massive free kick by refusing to take responsibility.

How have the AFL taken responsibility for the matter, just of interest? Essendon have explicitly stated they will be contesting WADA's decision that AOD-9604 is banned. Dank admitted he administered it to the players, and now they are trying to get off on a technicality. How is that in anyway owning up?

Meh, I know your just having a bit of fun here....

Of everything I have ever seen and heard of Tallis, he is absolutely 100% anti-drugs in sport.

Was right up Howe's nose after his drugs suspension at the Storm.

Couldn't see him calling for an amnesty on drug users in NRL...but I've been wrong before.

The thing about the amnesty is that I guess it would only stretch as far as the sporting world and would be contingent on a certain level of co-operation.

So if you go and dob in a dealer to ASADA, the NRL will keep your name out of the papers and you won't miss a match. The ACC are in on this, aren't they? Part of the ASADA deal might mean making a statement or being a witness in a criminal case where the player's identity might not be kept secret.

Pretty clear that nobody is getting amnesty if they only talk about themselves, and I'm guessing they would have to make themselves available for any criminal investigation too.

The idea of a honeymoon period where the players own up (if they want to) before everything goes back to normal is fanciful.

Essendon are cooperating in full. They dobbed themselves in. They have opened up their books to ASADA. They have been lauded by WADA for their cooperation. Cronulla has not and WADA is disgusted.

Is that delusional?

Remind me again please, how many have been suspended for all their apparent co-operation? Show me where they have confessed to having an issue with a banned substance in their 'tell all' report.
