What I can't understand, is why both comps haven't already done this?

Surely they have very wide ranging discretion to ban anyone, no matter what the circumstance, so there shouldn't be any legal impediment to this.

This 100% talk about bringing the game into disrepute :?

Not really, there has to be reason and that would mean them accusing him of something improper and opening up to him taking legal action. They are probably waiting for the findings then will ban him.

On a side note given his length of time at Manly was nothing sus discovered during that period?

And in the mean time, with all this ugliness hanging over his head, does anyone really think clubs would be stupid enough to hire him unless he is cleared?

The ASADA deal is very fair, the players should take it.

The reason it is fair is that the players are only really guilty of having too much faith in coach/club and not thinking for themselves.

But an NRL club is an environment where players trust the coach and club doctor and generally do what they are told without question.

If the players accept the deal, they can move on and it will not be hanging over their heads next season.

If WADA strikes out the ASADA action then the players should fight WADA in court.
Any court case against WADA could take a long time to settle as there would be some question about the jurisdiction of ASADA/WADA.

WADA may also change their mind once they more fully understand the situation.

Its best players accept the ban. Its better for their career and hip pocket, saving legal fees.
From a PR perspective, don't follow the path of James Hird who is taking the matter to court, which could bankrupt the merkin and wont even change the court of public opinion on the matter.

I think the public believes players didn't know what they were injected with and it should be left at that. Don't add fuel to the fire.

What a f**king mess, it's the players who are going facing this when it should be the club because they put then in the predicament, the problem is it's the fans that'll lose out big time and regardless of any outcome from a challenge it's the lawyers who will, and currently are benefitting from this mess.

If they take the unwillingly knew they took whatever is implied, and it's concrete there will be no further concerns raised by WADA, could players sue the Sharks for lack of care? If this is the case, then I wouldn't be surprised if the NRL stepped in to take over Cronulla and then Cronulla's fate is in the NRL hands ie if the NRL are to be believed they want their heartland strong then they'll bail them out but if they want expansion then this club would be relocated other than being closed down. Whatever the outcome and future planning, regardless of your thoughts on the club, you've really got to admire the Cronulla fans for sticking by their team

As if all 17 knowingly took banned or unapproved substances.

no way

I highly doubt anyone in charge would knowingly let it happen either.

You might get the odd bloke trying it...but all 17 and the coaching staff all in cahoots?

Fight it boys.

The rich and powerfull use the threat of bank rupting you with legal costs all the time

Look at all the billionaires. They never ever back down from a legal fight

Clive palmer is suing about 100 people at the moment

Its all a bluff, asada needs heads on sticks. Dont give it to them

Problem is not "knowing" isn't a defence though.

Reading between the lines, it appears the players aren't considered to be the big fish though.

That is a completely stupid analysis. It is Essendon fighting this which is exposing ASADA which weakens their hand when they deal with Cronulla. If it was another AFL club that was as poor as Cronulla they'd have had no choice but to bend over and take it 18 months ago and everyone would have been accepting 2 year bans without testing any of the process in court.

You do realise that the Essendon case isn't doing anything to help the players right? ASADA already said they can re-issue show cause notices within 24 hours if they lose.

There is a reason the players refused to take part.

Save your legal fees guys. If you want the court to test if you knowingly or unknowingly took the banned substances, you'll be found out.

IMO the players will take the slap on the wrist and move on. The only possible court action will be between the players and the club, and for mine, this will be a big indicator as to whether the players had any knowledge of what was going on at the Sharks.

If the players sue the club, then I'd be confident that they were unaware that the program used illegal substances (ie they were duped). If they cop the penalty on the chin, stay with the club and move on, well...................

You don't have to have knowingly taken unapproved substances to still get suspended. "I didn't know" isn't an acceptable excuse because anybody can say that. Ultimately everybody is responsible for what they put into their body. "I trusted X" is not good enough.
