'learning from the experience' doesn't sound like a vindication of the process.

Individual athletes have a right to be absolutely furious and disenchanted with ASADA after this.

Gallen should be stripped of the NSW captaincy though. Not saying he is a drug cheat, he was stupid and ignorant, but it isn't a good look.

F*ck me. Anyone carrying on here like these players are drug cheats is a moron.

Unless they went out and sought Dank to supply them stuff after it was known what was going on, then all they are guilty of is ignorance.

Punishment is more than appropriate for stupidity. All the carry on about anything more is dickheads with an axe to grind because they don't like the players involved.

Anyone who thinks taking the plea is nothing more than a claytons admission to just make the shit go away is beyond geniused.

I will never consider any of these players drug cheats unless evidence shows they went outside the club protocol after an issue was discovered.

Precisely.

The fact that the substances were allegedly administered after the captain's run suggests it was only those players who were due to play a game who would be 'offered' the substance.

That 17 players - with retirements, potentially every single player who played in that 5 week period - all took the substance shows just how low the players' moral culpability is.

The concept of a reasonable person permeates the law. Very generally speaking, you aren't held accountable if you behave in the way a reasonable person would have done in your circumstances. That's a very hackneyed summary. The fact that so many players allegedly took the substance to me shows that either a) They're all cheats b) Or were ignorant, and their ignorance and lack of enquiries are no different to the way most players in their positions would have acted.

The whole thing points to a systemic failing within the club and the code itself.

In my opinion.

Some people saying the players are getting off way, way too lightly.

Shane Webcke circa 2001 says hi

The above falls more into category A) when you know that it's been reported that a select group of players have travelled off premises to receive treatment with Dank.

It's very murky when it comes to the players culpability.

I think we will only find out the truth in the event that players take on the Club.

At present the club has been very much supportive of the players.

That will change if they launch legal action.

Should have Lockyer been stripped of his Aus & QLD captaincy because he was caught out lying to all and sundry in 2008, while holding those positions. Not a good look I'm sure you'll agree.

Webcke didn't bring the whole code into disrepute, big difference!

Disrepute now, Locky say hi circa 2008.

How is a player unknowingly taking a banned supplement bringing the game into disrepute, I would have expected those knowing that the substance was illegal and advised players that the substance was ok would be carrying that luggage.

I can't be bothered reading through 200 pages of this thread so I don't know if this has been answered, but

Now the Sharks players have admitted to taking the banned substances, can WADA say that the penalty ASADA are handing down is not severe enough and enforce their own 2 year ban (or any other extended ban)? I would assume they can't, but this whole investigation has been farcical from the get go so it wouldn't surprise me.

Player is asked to go to a corporate box, dodgy looking bloke pulls a vile out of an esky and says yeh no worries this will make you big and strong. Player a) thinks this is dodgy and walks out b) shrugs and says everyone else is doing it c) drools a bit and holds out an arm. Either b or c deserve punishment.

If your going to let players use the argument they didn't know what they were being given you might as well throw out performance enhancing drug laws.

You seem to lack a basic understanding of the rules. Ignorance is not an excuse. And an admission is an admission.

And you seem to lack any semblance of common bloody sense.

"Ooh ooh they said they were guilty ban them for a year!!"

Do you think they would have plead guilty if ASADA said 12 months starts today???? No didn't f*cking think so.

Pull your head out of your self righteous arse.

No need for me to respond to Hoppity. You've said what needs to be said admirably.

You're not wrong, the problem is ASADA isn't built for football clubs or codes and their culture and had common sense prevailed and those who deceived or failed in their duty of care to the players been the only ones punished it would have opened up a can of worms with individual athletes who are more aware of their responsibilities concerning supplements.
