Origin 2013 NSW side

Needs more Mason Pete. Call me biased but I think he has been close to the form NSW front rower in the comp this season and he thrives at this level.

Hell, he was part of the last series winning NSW side too. That experience couldn't hurt

Top side mattyg. Thats pretty much exactly the side I'd go with

That is pretty biased, there's no way he's been the form NSW front rower this year.

What he has proven is he can still make very good metres on every carry which makes him the perfect candidate to be selected on the bench. Unfortunately though when Daely got interviewed during the game he seemed less than convinced about Mason which is a shame because like you I think he's still got a role to play.

Not really.

Certainly in contention as a big boppa off the bench but he isn't vital. Never really been sold on him at this level. Seems like his entire Origin career is remembered for one Man of the Match award. Following that, I always felt like he played within himself. Not bad performances but simply very understated for a guy of his ability. Always good for a crucial mistake or two as well (see Origin 2 07).

Glenn Stewart aside I'd be happy with that.

I'm not sold on him either but I'm putting a lot of stock in playing a specialist.

Been looking into it a bit more and I can see Lewis getting the nod. He's shifted there since he made the trek over to the Sharks and has been building over the weeks. I don't think he'd be a bad shout.

Wade is certainly a player of the future. Unsure how adept he is at playing on the right as he predominately plays on the left-hand side at the Sharks but he has the Origin build about him. 2013 might be too early (same with some of my other nominees) but I'd have his name in the conversation before a guy like Hoffman.

Stewart has shown enough in Origin to keep his fullback spot over Hayne.

Agreed Stewart ticks more boxes on the representative level than Hayne, plus he is less likely to go quiet.

Hayne keeps one wing spot.

What would we miss from Hayne if we replaced him with Merritt, despite being a better ball player which is not really required for a winger.

Uate can be devastating despite defensive deficiencies. No idea why Brett Morris seems an automatic selection. Average club form and been found out in both attack and defence in Origin, much worse than Uate has.

True, Uate owns B Morris when it comes to total aggression in attack. Morris would not have guts to set up that try in CvC like Uate did. Morris may be a better defender but is far less intimidating running against QLDs left edge that Uate does

Jennings and Josh Morris played good last year, no one challenging them really.

Agree, my only gripe from the centres last year is that Jennings didnt get enough quality ball in open space.

Maloney for five-eighth, outplayed the injured Carney so far.

Disagree, Carney was a glimmer of hope and is improving with every origin game. I would serve Maloney as back up to Carney if he gets injured.

Reynolds over Pearce because f**k Pearce, he's shit. Reynolds in far superior form over the last year and a bit. Pearce isn't even the best half at the Roosters.

I would give Pearce his final chance. If he doesnt come up with at least half of what Reynolds did in CvC, or gets totally out shined by his halves partner than I'll be happy to see him go. On the other hand, I'm not expecting miracles from Reynolds especially from his debut game and Pearce has a better defensive workload

Hoffman unlucky but with 4 great backrowers + Merrin not sure if we need another backrower.

I would have Hoffman over Glenn Stewart, he was back to his elite best last year and is continuing his form this season and is always dangerous close to the line. I didn't like him in his previous stints for NSW but I reckon he deserves another shot.

Only reason for picking Hayne over Merritt is Hayne has been one of our best Origin players in our seven year losing streak.

Only reason for Maloney over Carney at the moment is Carney's injury. If Carney was fit and played solid enough he would be in.

I didn't pick Glenn Stewart. I had Watmough, Bird and Gallen as starting backrowers and Lewis on the bench. Merrin can play either front row or lock. I think Lewis gives more options as a utility and Merrin is a better replacement for the middle, while Hoffman as an edge backrower is still below Bird, Gallen and Lewis in the pecking order.

Mason was one of the player leaders when the team culture, at least outwardly, became about rubbishing players who were threats to your mates position.

We have better options and I wouldn't want him anywhere near the side

I hope you blokes aren't picking Tolman with the premise that he will make metres carrying the ball. He'll be buried each and everytime he carries it. If he's a starting prop for us we are no hope.

Couldn't care if Jennings was left out. Don't see why he is rated so highly.

Uate still doesn't look like catching the high ball and continues to let in soft tries. He should not be picked.

Hayne has performed very well on the wing so leave him there. He should not play fullback in front of Stewart.

As for the 5/8, toss a coin. Who knows???

I hope Daley picks a decent prop rotation. Gidley does not need to be there and should not be taking up a bench spot. I know it covers a Farah injury but what if Farah is not injured??? What's he there for?

Who are your best four NSW frontrowers on form RWB?

We need Gidley at 14 incase Myles uses deliberate headbutts again to take out Farah...
But seriously Gidley shouldn't be anywhere near the bench for NSW but he will be, which f**ks me off.
I didn't think Creagh had a bad game in his last outing for NSW, but I'm glad he is finally gone, many better backrowers out there, with more aggression.

How so? Made 150+ metres in City-Country against a prop rotation of Mannah, Grant and Fifita. Made 100+ metres against the Cowboys, 120+ against Melbourne, 150+ against Souths and 120m+ against Manly. These are all top forward rotations and/or top teams.

Hope not. Will be giving up the middle to QLD yet again. Need two props on the bench, not one that now plays as a ball player for his club, and another two who play on the edges. And the team doesn't need a utility on the bench when Lewis and Bird are also in the team.

Two real props starting at 8 & 10, and two more on the bench to give a penetrating middle rotation which is effective for the entire 80 mins. QLD got on top in the second half of ecah game last year when NSW inside forwards who normally play as outside and more mobile forwards at their clubs started to get dominated.

How many metres against the Roosters?

He didn't average 7 metres a run v Manly.

Great stamina to pump the ball up so many times. That's his strength.

Do you believe he can do what Matt Scott, Ben Hannant and co do at Origin, and that's make big metres??? I don't. I don't deny his stamina but I'll be shocked if he's a starting prop for NSW.

He'll get buried in Origin.

Good work picking out one game. Maybe we can pick out one game out of every prop ever named and say they can't handle Origin. Hannant made 89 metres against the Roosters for an average of 5.9 metres per run. Don't pick him for Origin.

And yes, I clearly do believe he can make big metres. Does it against top quality opposition and he does it virtually every week.

Actually I pointed out two. He got buried in both.

I see you strategically left those games out of your stats.

Well let's hope he gets the starting prop position for NSW then. He sounds like he'll match Scott and Hannant and co for sure. Can't wait.

No I didn't. Why do you think I pointed out the 5.9 metres per game?
