Origin 2013 NSW side

Problem for Tolman is he has so much competition. He would probably fill the Anthony Watmough role better than the front row in origin. Front row play in origin is about a. quickness of the play the ball and b. yards after the initial collision. This is why Tamou will be first prop picked. He has a habit of making a lot of metres after the initial collision and Watmough has the body type to make the same sorts of plays plus quick play the balls.

In fact almost every player in the team has to have the ability to get away a quick play the ball. Look at Luke Lewis in the test, his footwork and acceleration off the bench even when he wasn't breaking the line he was doing enough to play the ball quickly and get some momentum.

Tolman is a worker that would be of benefit if NSW didn't have dozens of players already capable of doing a lot of work.

Tolman specialises in hitting the ground once he reaches the defensive line. He is very, very quick to hit the ground. No chance of bending the line, using leg drive, carrying two or three defenders a few metres. Little wonder he hits the ball up so many times a game,. He expends minimal energy by refusing to attempting to gain extra metres when he hits the line.

The cane toads will absolutely love him.

 That's better than the claims Reynolds won MOTM.

Reynolds isn't even the best young halfback going around, I'd take Sam Williams & Aiden Sezer well before him. But hell if you think a halfback with 3 linebreak assists in his career is going to take a game by the scruff off the neck, create points and win games for you then you've got bigger issues than trying to figure out who the media's support is truly behind in the nsw halfback race.
is the 3 linebreak assists an exaggeration?

His spot is the only spot I would question, but the only reason I have him there is because there is not really anyone else to pick. I haven't seen enough of Tom Symonds and Biyd Cordinar to give them a origin jersey, t-rex is playing cr@p, Merrin and Fensom are 80 minute players not impact players, creagh and Scott suck and Glenn Stewart is ineffective at origin level. Only other person I would consider is Jamal Idris, he hasn't been playing to well but regardless he is destructive with ball in hand. In the second row I reckon he would cause Queensland some serious trouble.

Brett Stewart hasnt looked great this season. If he is carrying an injury he needs to get himself right before Origin.

Who are your best four NSW frontrowers on form RWB?

I hate picking on form regardless, I'd much rather just pick on ability. Form matters little in origin, we've seen it so many times. You need the class to step up to that level, not the form.

My best 4 would be;
Gallen
Tamou
Merrin
Grant

That's with my preference of Fensom at lock but realistically;

Tamou
Grant
Merrin
Mason

Woods has to be close but I just think if you're going to play your 4th prop off the bench for 30 minutes or so then you need to go with an impact player and Mase fits that role perfectly.

Grant only gets there because of his performance last year but I really don't rate him higher than Woods tbh... wouldn't take many average performances for him to get dropped.

Thought Reynolds took the line on a lot more last night. Nearly got over the line and broke into the backfield on another play. Reynolds is more than what he has shown IMO. Last night was probably as close as you could get to origin without it being a final or test match. The physicality was definitely there and Reynolds had to work for everything.

FB: Hayne
RW: Uate
RC: J Morris
LC: Jennings
LW: B Morris
FE: Maloney
HB: Pearce
AH: Farah
P: Tamou
P: Grant
RF: Lewis
LF: Bird
R: Gallen
I: Woods
I: Mason
I: Watmough
I: O'Donnell

Notes:
- Stewart's got nothing on the kick returns and looks good paired with his bro and the real star - Lyon - down the right side for Manly.

- not overly sold Maloney and Pearce despite performances for Easts. They have threats outside them on both sides of the field - SBW & SKD on right, Aubisson & Jennings on left - take your pick. and their middle third players have been up there just a peg below souths to get the attack moving forward. can they create something from nothing like Thurston and Cronk can when their forwards are playing below par? Reynolds has similar luxury at Souths and really only been a game manager rather than a game changer. Going with the incumbent here and his partner because Carney might not be firing in time.

- Lewis has been playing right side for cronulla and i reckon he adds much more than G Stewart who relies on Lyon at Manly.

- Confidence shown in Grant will spur him. Held his own at this level last year.

- Mason will be up for it and won't be intimidated by the occasion. I have no doubt.

- Watmough is more of an inside backrower but is versatile to play on the left edge. Need his mongrel.

- O'Donnell is another left side player which is what i think hurts him as bird and watmough are already there. prefer a right-sided player here. can someone think of one, other than G Stewart & Scott?

- no need for Gidley. enough utilities in the team with Bird and Lewis, and Farah can play 80 mins. no need to waste a fresh body on the bench for an injury contingency that might happen. Lose a half, then slot bird, farah or lewis in there. likewise if farah goes down. watmough and/or o'donnell can fill the breach on the edges. need 4 fresh forwards on the bench - 2 props particularly - to try and keep up the effectiveness. I reckon this hurt NSW last year, particularly the lack of props.

Yeah he did take the line on a few times last night that brought on a few half chances. If he keeps working on his running over the next few years he will defs make the NSW side in the near future.
