I think Johns might be an outside chance at coaching next year, you can see he really has that fire in the belly. Potentially johns wuth Gus over-seeing him?
Or bring Gus Gould back - like him or not, his results at that level speak for themselves.

I'd like to see Joey and Freddie do a joint-coaching set up like the Walker brothers at Ipswich. Joey has the tactical nous while Freddie has gotten a City side full of reggies over a Country side full of rep players twice in a row. Plus he coached all three NSW U/s teams to victories this year.

Queensland are not invincible. It's very easy to beat them and we showed how in Game 1. Bash them through the middle, forcing them to compress their defensive line which in turn creates space on the edges for Teddy, Bird and Dugan. You need to pressure their kickers and hit them late if necessary. f**k it, give away the penalty. Cronk and Smith need to be put on edge. Don't slide off your tackles, compete in every play and for the love of god, hold the god damn ball. It's not difficult.

Fittler, Daley and all those blokes are far too matey matey and not hard enough to coach men.
If Bellamy couldn't do it then those dick heads have absolutely no chance.
Qld have an "inbred soul" to them and whilst NSW might have a soul the trouble is ours all start with the letter R.
Re Qld being easy to beat and all the stuff written about that well unfortunately the proof is there for all to see in reality it is extremely difficult to beat Qld as you might win 1 game but rarely can you win two against them because they just continue to evolve and adapt to the situation.
NSW's games 2 & 3 strategies were built on a false premiss that Fafitta could repeat his game 1 achievements and almost everything was predicated on and built around it in the subsequent games
Our people thought it was a good idea but Qld would never do anything so stupid let alone around such a fractured personality and we did it with not only Fafitta but to a lesser extend Hayne and he is a total dick as well.

I don't think Joey Johns or any of those Chanel 9 blokes are the right fit to possibly coach NSW. Johns has no coaching experience except for an advisory halves role working with the Roosters this year. His magic certainly didn't rub off with Pearce in the Origin series.
We need an experienced hard nut coach that can fire up these blokes. They reckon the toughest player pound for pound was Geoff Toovey. If he can instill his passion and angry competitive character into the Blues team ..... then he should be the coach!!! Team Toovs up with Spud Carrol or the Chief Harragon - blokes that would never take a backward step for their State. The current set up is like a pampered holiday camp.
I vote for Toovs!!!

Johns has a history of taking off when things got tough. Not in the field but in coaching / commentary roles.

Teams get him in for short bursts of valuable info and then let him move on.
He can't handle long hauls / pressure jobs. Keep in mind he suffers from depression so as good as he can be for assisting, coaching full time won't work for him.
Credit to him, Joey knows that.
Fittler is not a lot different to Johns when it comes to pressure. Again, Freddy knows this and is valuable in short term roles like City / Country coaching.

No, we need a harden experienced manager. Who that will be is even to name.

The difference with Qld & Us is that they put di**heads & non team players on notice. Last year they barred Holmes,Munster,Milford for breaking curfew. They obviously were stung by this & repaid the selectors & team mates in spades. Add the DCE snub because he apparently didn't/doesn't fit into their culture.
Where as the Blues continuesly pick "out there" players which makes it hard to create a positive all singing from the same hymn page culture. And then we put them on a pedestal with the expectations that they'll lead us to victory.
IMO it's a recipe for disaster.

Agree.....and in my opinion changes should have been made after Origin 2......there was a period in that game 20 to 30 mins where things went horribly wrong ...there were a few players in that game that didnt aim up imo.....at 16 to 6 in front of a large NSW crowd we should have put the series to bed there and then but didnt.....it was plainly obvious that we would struggle to beat QLD twice up in Brisbane .........same ol same ol....all the crap about we were the better team for most of the second game blah blah blah.....we got ambushed at Suncorp in game 3 because we didnt make changes and simply didnt turn up to play and QLD did...end of story

Another series over and yet more disappointment for NSW fans, The players don't care and are pretty much resigned to losing. The coach is uninspiring and it was as if they did not want to spoil the Thurston party. There was no anger and they showed no hunger for redemption next year.

What used to be the greatest contest in Australian sport is now the greatest non-contest in Australian sport thanks to a completely inept NSW setup from top to bottom (sounds also like a certain NRL club).

Woods just went missing and got lazy as if he was still playing for JT. That was always going to be Morris' last game. Fifita bought into his own hype too soon without finishing the job. Agreed, new coach, new team. Just have to let some football be played now, and as you say, pick the form players.

Daley = Mary = Failure
  • NSW Game Plan SOO game 1 = Dragons 'Power Plan'.
  • NSW Performance second half SOO Game 2 = Busted Dragons performance.
  • NSW Performance SOO Game 3 = Dragons selection process.

Are you saying we should employ Daley to keep our good run continuing?

Is Daley part of our succession plan?

Origin = No contest = NRL distraction
Play one Origin game per year at Suncorp Stadium on a stand alone rep weekend & just give QLD the shield. That way we can all get on with a full NRL season with no byes & half baked contests. I'm over 11 years of consistent disappointment.by NSW!!

I would have penciled in for next year

1 Teddy
2 Mansour
3 T Trbjovic
4 Bird
5 Morris/Hayne/Roberts
6 Moylan
7 Cleary
13 DeBelin
12 Cordner
11 Frizzell
10 Vaughan
9 McInnis
8 Klemmer

14 Jake Trbjovic
15 Fifita
16 Graham
17 Gutherson /Roberts (utility back)
GOod team - I had something very similar, except with Roberts in the centres and Tom Turbo on the wing, Jake Turbo starting and JDB not he bench (could go either way though) and Ryan James in over a utility back (when you've got Wade Graham in the team, you dont need a utility back). Oh, and I held onto Peats, he deserves another knock and there's not much between him and McInnes anyway. Its a good mix of speed, skill and power.

Andrew Johns as coach, no f***ing way!!! Even Matty Johns said Origin camp would be an absolute circus if Johns was in charge. We're talking about a guy that can barely keep his personal life together off the field and his behaviour can be completely erratic. Does NSW really need a coach who is often prone to going on benders and would probably be more ill-disciplined than the players themselves? Let's not forget that NSW once suffered the embarrassment of having a player walk out on the team due to the rubbish that was coming out of Johns' mouth

I tell you what it's easy for the Channel 9 team to be critical and sound like they have all the answers from the comfort of their booth. It's the exact same thing that we do on this forum. There's a reason Gus Gould has stayed clear away from the coaching role during QLD's decade of dominance and it's because he knows he couldn't beat them and the myth that he has all the answers would be completely shattered and his value would plummet.

Despite the results I think that Daley has done a good job. In 2014 he actually managed a series win over a team full of future Immortals with a halves pairing of Hodgkinson and Josh Reynolds... That's pretty damn impressive.

This year NSW completely destroyed QLD in Game I. In Game II they were 20mins from winning the series and had to completely stop playing footy for QLD to come back and salvage their series. Game III the same players just didn't turn up. Maybe they believed their own hype? I'm not sure what was going through their heads but they let QLD's weakest team of the series embarrass them through sheer desire. That's not a coaching or selection issue, that comes down to the players' attitudes.

I challenge anyone to watch Game I or the first half of Game II again and say that Daley isn't the man to coach this side.

Interesting point you raise. But ultimately he has won 1/5 series. This series QLD were also missing 4 of their best and had a different 6 each game - for me that's the nail in Daley's coffin.

A guy like Bellamy couldn't get a series win either but that was a stringer QLD side than this years.

IMO Bellamy was to NSW what Price and McGregor have been to the Dragons. A lot of the work Stuart and Daley have had to do has been rebuilding the culture of the blues from the ground up after the mess that Bellamy created and imbedded in the NSW psyche.

Bellamy will arguably go down as the greatest club coach in history but I consider his tenure as NSW coach the darkest period in NSW Origin history. The bloke just didn't understand Origin culture. His selections (Steve Turner?!), game plans and even camps (a mansion in rural Victoria!?) were disastrous.

Challenge very much accepted.

Replace 'Game I or the first half of Game II' with 'Round 1 to 10' and 'Daley' with 'McGregor' and you'll see the error in your post.

Daley is very much McGregor. His selections are stupidly inconsistent, revolving around 'players who've been there before' (and lost) and some intangible and ridiculous quality known as 'being an origin player' rather than fielding a team based on appropriate skillset and ability to play. He over-manufactured a game plan for Game 1, yet when QLD found a counter part way between Game 2 he had no plan B. And that game plan was dependant on field position, limiting mistakes and defence. Sound familiar yet?

By comparison, Walters saw sever weaknesses in Game 1 and dropped a large portion of his side for fresh blood. He was lucky to get away with Game 2, jagging the win on the back of player brilliance in the same way that Daley managed game 1 on the back fo Fifita domination. Come game 3, and Walters developed a game plan to wipe NSW off the park. The way QLD shifted the ball early in the game, used angles and set plays early in the set and in their own half to get around NSW superior forward pack was pure strategy (granted, it's handy having the Smith and Cronk's of the world to execute that). And my personal favourite, while everyone else was arguing whether Morgan or DCE should start at 5/8, he selected a rookie who turned out to be best on field!

Those are what makes Walters superior and Daley poor. Walters had a plan B. Walters developed a game plan to beat NSW, rather than running with the same old and aiming to not lose. And Walters backed skill and ability over incumbency and experience.
