Depending on how many of the MCG members turn up, it shouldat least get 75-80k minimum

in 1994 the MCG got a crowd of over 87,000 to a SOO game and that was before Melbourne Storm joined the nrl. Can`t wait to see Cam Smith lead the qld side out onto the MCG next year.

I agree it would be a good promotion for league in Victoria but don't think it should be played there. It's a contest between NSW and QLD and has absolutely nothing to do with VIC. Play international tests there instead.

better idea, build a 50k+ stadium on the border of NSW & QLD, one half for NSW fans & the other half for QLD fans. Origin is for NSW & QLD not other states who really couldnt give a toss.
wrong . most footy fans love origin

It's because the papers are reporting it as if it is "stolen" from NSW, when from what I understand it's just part of the standard cycle?
its an outrage . full investigation on those toadie qlanders . disgrace:lol:

Kinda a waste of time when Channel 9 don't show the games down there. Any extra promo work is wasted by Ch9's treatment of the game.

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/state-of-origin-melbourne-one-day-perth-and-london-the-next-20140602-zrvd1.html

Looks like the ARLC is actually ahead of the curve in terms of what was already being talked about in relation to Origin being played elsewhere. With Perth mentioned also.

London (Wembley) seems an very ambitious idea. But logical in terms of the already existing fanbase of the game.

There would have to be a stand alone weekend or some serious scheduling changes though.

I would definitely plan a holiday around it if so.

Not that I've been to an origin match in VIC, but isn't the crowd more favoured to QLD there?

I can't believe all the bitching that is going on about taking 1 game in 9 and using it to help grow rugby league. Especially since this has been going on for years already.

To me, it is a mistake to take games to Melbourne in both 2015 and 2018. Melbourne have had games in 2006, 2009 and 2012. The NRL needs to be more daring and take the neutral game to other cities.

I'd like to know what the point of hosting a game in Melbourne is trying to get at though. They already have a successful team down there, and their own rectangular stadium, so what exactly are they aiming for??

Create a buzz down there for a whole week, give the city a showpiece rugby league game, attract new fans to the sport, increase the profile of rugby league in Victoria, attract kids to take up the sport, attract Melbourne storm members, play at one of the great stadiums in the world. What is the negative?

Sell another 30,000 tickets, over the Brisbane/Sydney average.

$$$$$$$$$$$

Perth, Auckland, Adelaide, etc don't have 100,000 stadiums. Why would the ARL move games only to lose money?

To grow the game even more. Do you believe that the Storm are successful enough off the field now to say "f**k it, our work is done"?

Also, The VIC government is tipping in $2M per game, that's a good benefit for the game.
