Is it Game 2 though? Logically I think it should be, but Im certain it was bandied around that it was Game 1 next year that was at a "neutral" venue.

And really the MCG? That seems crazy?

Tell you what tickets are going to be CHEAP if they expect to get more than about 60K.

It will go from QLDers paying 250+ for a ticket this year to Victorians paying $40 next year.

better idea, build a 50k+ stadium on the border of NSW & QLD, one half for NSW fans & the other half for QLD fans. Origin is for NSW & QLD not other states who really couldnt give a toss.

More money for the NRL, but they are killing our code by continuously playing blockbusters at round grounds.
When is this country going to build rectangle mega stadiums of 100 thousand like the Americans, Brazil, and Europe have for their rectangle codes.
Suncorp at only 52 thousand is Australia's largest rectangle ground. what a embararressment for this government.

NSW need to turn ANZ into a permanent rectangle home, and we need to not play any more games at round grounds. We are killing our crowds and atmosphere.

Nobody can remember much about the last origin at the MCG, because it was lifeless and boring.

Great move. Playing at the most iconic sporting ground in australia is only a good thing.

But will it sell well though? I can't see a sell out unless there is some massive ticket discounting.

Im all for Origin in Melbourne, I live here, but MCG seems a bit much.

big hit!

hate to burst the bubble buddy, but there aren't too many rectangular stadiums in the world that are 100k. Camp Nou in barcelona is the only one that comes to mind from memory.

You need to build something like Lang Park fairly f**kin' high to get the capacity and not lose the atmosphere. They've done this with Camp Nou but because the arena is buried so far into the ground, it doesn't look that high from outside the stadium.

Otherwise, you build stands with a larger capacity lower tier and a flatter angle that just goes further back from the arena, and you end up with a shit facility again like Sydney Olympic Stadium.

Those that are big in the USA are mostly college stadiums like Michigan, Beaver, etc that still utilise bench seating.

That's right - with return flights from Bris-Mel around $120 bucks will probably end up being cheaper to go to the MCG than to the Lang Park game.

they reamed QLDers this year because they believed 50k of them would pay the inflated price.

They can lower price for an MCG game if they want to get 80k and still make coin out of it.

The whinging from rugby league fans is unbelievable. Moving 1 fans every 3 years has been happening since 2006, it has been great for getting publicity for the sport in Victoria yet people still whinge.

It's because the papers are reporting it as if it is "stolen" from NSW, when from what I understand it's just part of the standard cycle?

Although the standard won't be the greatest, it would be awesome if they played a Victoria v Western Australia game before the main game. Would be an interesting clash and could be an extra incentive for melbournians to attend. Obviously there are not a lot of nrl players from these states, but there are a few Victorian locals with the storm, a couple from Perth and the WA comp is quite strong. Would be a nice touch from the nrl.

Being mid week, I don't think that would be any real incentive for Vics to attend.

It would however be good for the development of the game in both states, therefore I think it should happen.

It used to be that there was an entire program of games on pre-Origin back in the day.

Great idea if held on a stand alone Origin weekend. IMO Melb should get 1 game every year.

Game two next year.

I think this is bullshit. I don't see why NSW and QLD should lose games so it can go to Melbourne where hardly anyone gives a f**k.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/sta...=Fox Feed - Origin to return to MCG next year

WTF? Hold on... that means the NSW are going to lose a game... because there is NO WAY they'll have an origin series without having at least 1 game in Suncorp... FFS. This is shit. We lose a home game yet again.

f**k me.

Why the hell do we always do this?

Also, wasn't game 3 held in Melbourne in 2006? That's a lot more recent than 1997 FFS.

We don't lose a game, why does everyone keep saying this? There is a game in a neutral venue every 3 years. Melbourne has had games in 2006, 2009, 2012 and now 2015, 2018.
