I do think he has a point re: how McLean was handled.

They seem to judge sentences by the severity of the injury, rather than the severity of the incident.

How about the new rule they've brought in where any player that wants to receive a penalty just has to lean forward and lift his feet above the horizontal.

I've heard that there is a new rule where anyone who tackles someone wearing a Smiths T-Shirt gets a penalty against them.

Didn't Greg Inglis do that a couple of times In a game last year? (or was it the year before?)

Said he was protecting himself, you'd want to get the timing right otherwise soccer acting academy Pty Ltd will come calling

Newcastle have confirmed Alex McKinnon has been transferred from the intensive care unit at Melbourne's Alfred Hospital to a spinal rehabilitation ward in a Sydney hospital.

The Knights said in a statement the 22-year-old has shown a small improvement in his condition as he begins rehab to try to walk again.

"Movement in Alex's right arm is improving and he has started to get movement in his left arm," the statement read.

"Alex is able to control an electronic wheelchair. As previously advised, further regeneration may occur over a two-year timeframe.

"While there is a long road ahead for Alex, these small improvements continue to lift his spirits, as does the overwhelming amount of support he is receiving.

Out of ICU is always a good start.

Alex McKinnon medal may be struck for City-Country MVP

Date April 23, 2014

League officials are considering a proposal to award a medal named in honour of Alex McKinnon to the man of the match in the City-Country fixture.

McKinnon was a member of the Country side that defeated City 18-12 last year in his maiden representative appearance. However, the Newcastle forward's league career was cruelly cut short when he suffered a serious spinal injury against Melbourne in round three.

The McKinnon family have been great contributors to bush football, with an oval in Aberdeen named after Alex's father, Mal.

Country Rugby League officials are also planning to honour former chairman Wayne ''Jock'' Colley - who recently passed away at the age of 61 - with a minute's silence before the game, while players will wear black armbands.

They are also keen to honour McKinnon and the inaugural Alex McKinnon Medal could be struck for the outstanding performer at Apex Oval in Dubbo on May 4.

"Being an NRL player who put so much into the game at a young age, it would be appropriate," said CRL chief executive Terry Quinn.

Yesterday Alex was offered a job for life from the NRL.

Today the knights say that they will honour the new contract which was on the table at the time of the injury.

Wonderful sentiments from the club and NRL or damage control to avoid massive litigation ?

So far Alex has been compensated for loss of income... what about medical expenses, additional cost of living with a disability, pain & suffering, loss of consortium (giggy giggy), mental anguish & emotional distress (and the biggy) - permanent disability ?

Better call Saul ...

as I said in the NRL forum, the sceptic in me cant help but think the NRL have offered him a job for life to keep any compensation claims out of the courts

and is this such a bad thing, I would hope the NRL would look after their own in situations like this.

Probably works out cheaper to the league than taking out insurance to cover every player by looking after the unfortunate few who need it.

as there are rules and laws of the game in place to try and protect players and a player has been held accountable for breaking these rules it may not just be the NRL who are shielded from any court action.

Yeah I don't get it either. This is a unique situation, one that the NRL has ever dealt with, of course they are going to accommodate as best they can as help as much as possible, regardless of legal action!
