It's the going backwards repeatedly, diving/fake injuries and yellow cards for shit reasons that really turn me off. I played the game growing up and I still dislike it. I played it cause I was a pussy and didn't like getting tackled.

Like golf though, playing it is much more interesting than watching it.

Same, played soccer, and it is a good game to play, but watching it is hard sometimes with the amount of shot that goes on it.

Comparing the A-league thou too nfl? Compare the premier league to it...A-league would be like watch lets say under 20's or even sg ball....

The Chelsea vs Bayern match was great. Bayern created so many chances and Chelsea held on.Than one flash of brilliance and its level. Than some of the missed chances by Bayern. Its more like a story unfolding.

What you need to admire thou is also the great ball control-the great dribbles-crosses and passing. Its actually a skill just too whip in a good cross, put in a nice free kick, dribble past a player, pass a ball rom one side of field to anther and land it on a dime.
This alone is very difficult but to those who don't know the sport would think its just a normal thing. Maybe get a ball and try running it round a couple of cones and see how go.A lot harder then catching a gridoin ball that's for sure.

I prefer NFL over soccer now , love the game but I could be just a phase. I still find soccer has you on the edge of seat a lot more and getting those butterflies.
AS great as NFL is it also can get a little boring at times too.Sure today we saw a great game, but you do also get some games where it just seems like the same thing over and over again. Like 9/10 when a team needs a yard they just rush it up the guts. And as you get to know each team you start too learn there style-Some teams just run most the time-some do a lot of short passes etc....

Nfl is great when its a close game. But when there is a miss match it can be like watching a slow death as the better team just slowly drives up the field. And an upset is rare. In the EPL you always get a bottom team upsetting top teams throughout the year.

Im not sure why we are knocking either thou-I like all of them yet dislike rugby-And that's more due to the fact I cant follow too many sports passionately.

Diving adds to the drama- as much as we say he dived etc.....Take that element out and its takes out another emotion you get while watching the game!! Was it a penalty or did he dive?

I also think tennis was better when no review. Now players don't get angry they just review it.Used too love watching them go off there tree!

You have to say one thing thou with NL- they do carry on like bell ends thou. Like with the flags, yeah theres a push and not one flag-not two but flags everywhere.I could just imagine the morons holding the flag taking it so seriously thou. Its kind of amusing how serious they take it.Almsot like a movie you might say?

I will also say NFL takes a certain amount of concentration. You need to know the plays-where are on the field the amount of downs etc....

After a long week at work don't under estimate the joy of watching the simplicity of rugby league over a few beers with your mates rather than an intense head F$$k.

This.

What plays do you have in league? Oh bomb to the winger, throw a decoy right right - complex stuff.

And here's where you show your ignorance of professional rugby league. In league the entire set of six is a 'play'. And there's no time between tackles for everyone to stop and make sure the knuckleheads remember what to do on the next tackle. Meanwhile in the NFL they have 40 seconds to huddle and confer with the coach and generally f**k around before the next three second period of gameplay. Then the down ends and they have another 40 seconds to discuss what they're doing next.

Sounds extremely complicated.

NFL is a better game - And I am a phili fan but gee I have no emotional ties to them.Id much rather parra win.I would feel more of a connection with friends, family and even people on here.Phili lose I get a bit disappointed but I don't want to smash anything.I keep my kool, unlike if parra lost a GF I would shed a tear
I watch the NFL and appreciate it, a great sport. I find it odd you could develop such a strong emotional bond for a team on the other side of the world thou compared to one in your own backyard thou.

I started following the NFL back in the early 90s and tried to stay interested right up until I realised I just didn't give a f**k sometime before the turn of the century. Then I tried caring about the EPL (Leeds had Kewell and Viduka). Same thing happened.

I don't think the game itself matters (the popularity of cricket is testament to that) - it's about which wagon you're hitched to. For me the only teams I really care about are the Eels and the Socceroos. Sydney FC follows somewhere behind those two. NFL? It's the hype factory that draws people in. The US is a big, rich, heavily populated country. They sell their culture well. That's why the NFL is popular outside the States.

I didn't see any of the game today, but I did watch most of the play-off between the Seahawks and Green Bay on Saturday Night and I've got to say it was a great game - I started off as a casual observer and found it compelling viewing.

However, I do find some of the speciality positions amusing - is there anything more pathetic than a "Holder"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holder_(American_football)

Hey mate... Just FYI... A 'holder' isn't a specialist position.

Teams don't waste a roster position on someone to be a specialist 'holder'.

It's normally a task handled by one of the back up quaterback's or the punter.
