OT: Association Football

So I too watched the Matildas' game last night, and was pleasantly surprised how well they did against the 5th in the world France team - defence stood up really really well, and that goal scored straight after Kerr was subbed was pretty magical work.

They went better than expected, and I'm looking forward to the next month of football.

By rights, the Matildas and Canada should proceed as top two from their group, but it will be interesting to see how the group results shape the match-ups for the round of 16 (and onwards).

A nice man from Optus called me to say that bc I have a dozen phones in a business plan with them, that they have activated the Optus Sports app for me.

So it's locked and loaded on my apple tv and I'm ready to be a soccer football nerd for the ladies WC and the Premier League moving forward.

Who should I support in the PL ? I am taking submissions.

just a shot in the dark, but if you're a patriotic Aussie you could always follow a team with an Aussie coach, Aussie assistant coach and Aussie Cheif of Football

Try Newcastle United.
They aren't a mainstream club and haven't won anything for ages, so disappointment will not let you down.
They are also a club on the rise so enjoy the ride.

Lucky they weren't playing at Comm Bank

I'm sure they would have restricted the number of tickets sold to the capacity of the stadium. Ergo they wouldn't have gone ahead and sold 75K tickets for CommBank and just expected people to fend for themselves and secure a seat when they arrived...

yeah, I get that

Comm Bank may be used for neutral games but the Matildas will pack in the crowds. I also think most people expected Sam to play, she is a big draw card.

I don’t watch a lot of soccer. Can I ask whether that’s the standard of entertainment we can expect for this tournament or was that a particularly dire example. It was hard to watch.
