I don’t watch a lot of soccer. Can I ask whether that’s the standard of entertainment we can expect for this tournament or was that a particularly dire example. It was hard to watch.

Matildas are ranked 10th. I thought it was an entertaining game. Obviously the quality is not on par with the men but it seems to be getting better.

I only saw the last 15 minutes or so, switching between the NRL, cricket and the soccer.
Ireland had so many chances to score in that time, the Matildas were lucky to hold them out. Plenty of shots way off. They did have one free kick that came very close but missed by about half a metre. Nailbiting stuff.

The Irish certainly dominated possession and field position in the last 15 enough to win the game 5 times. They just could not finish anything off. Full marks to that feisty teenager of theirs.

The Matildas held their opponents (in this game) to zero... proving they defended really well (in this game).

It actually doesn't prove anything else, which I'm sure you must be aware.

It might not be the most 2023 thing to say but I somewhat prefer women’s football to men’s because they just aren’t as skilful. The vast majority of soccer games are as boring as Dragons vs Tigers but at least with women’s the higher number of errors creates excitement. Also because of the errors and less physicality/ability to kick long, womens tend to play more direct so there’s usually a heap more one on ones
