Will be interesting to see how Travis Dean goes over the season (which, of course, stops for ages for the Big Bash). Not much upside after scoring an undefeated century in both innings of your FC debut.

Vics made the correct call dropping the severely overrated Finch, sure he scored runs against the kiwis n a joke game on a wicket doing SFA but he averages around 30 in FC cricket for a reason.

We really need generation next to step up this season,

The amazing thing with Travis Dean

The most recent unders 23s game he played before his Shield debut, he scored 217* and 63 (vs WA U23s)to kick start this season

He finished last season with scores of 43, 116, 187*, 0 in his last two under 23's games.

The lad is in some serious hot form

Peter Handscombe is also useful and has a pretty sound technique. Giving up the wicket-keeping seems to have helped consistency-wise.

Great knock Uzi, was treated poorly by selectors a couple of times. Hopefully this can get him a decent run now.

Usman is a very technically correct batsman.
I too am also very happy for him. I've wanted (expected) to see him do much better than he ever has, many times in the past.
I hope this is his coming of age, because, to be honest, he won't get many more chances if he fails this series.
Great start for the lad.

Suity.

he really was treated like shit and didn't deserve it, much like Burns being dropped earlier this year, they both answered back well today

also surprised that the Kiwi bowlers were so average, I really expected a lot more from them

Khawaja has always had the talent hopefully now he has the belief he can forge a solid test career. As i dont think he had the proper support from coaches or selectors in the past. Mickey arthur always found a reason to leave him out of the team which i think showed whenever he played for australia previously he played like a player expecting to be dropped at any moment.

Uzzie is a bloke they should have stuck with once they decided to pick him. I know they had some issues with his fielding and perhaps training, but his technique is made for Test cricket.

Talking to a few former players and current ones and they all said he has just about the best technique in the country. It's his concentration and fitness that let him down. But he was shabbily treated compared with guys like Marsh and Watson who continually did nothing and were given chance after chance. Hopefully we have found our long term 3.

Usmans innings reminds me when we thumped Manly in round 1..

Hopefully he can go on from here, but its just one knock. Kiwis were under done for mine. They will be better for the run in Perth for the 2nd test

We hopefully will declare 30-40 min after tea on day 2 with over 600 on the board

Oozie was sacked for not doing his "homework"

Thank god Mickey Arthur has gone.
