Wait, have we established that the right DO practice their politics with empathy compassion and respect ?
I’ll establish that when you establish that the left does.

Actually I won’t because I don’t believe either side does. One just pretends to.

Empathy, compassion and respect don’t get you elected.
Convincing people that you have them does.

I’ll be voting Labor so I guess they’ve convinced me enough. Although to be fair to Gronk, it is more a case that the other guys have convinced me they have less.

Personally, It’s not a set of metrics that I would bother with, because as you say it’s easily faked.

If ScoMo loses the election his perceived incompetence will be more of a factor than whether he lacks empathy, compassion or understanding.

Nah. He nailed it.
In your opinion obviously.

It's easy to be lazy and minimize. That's what people do with their "pfft they're all the same" political and societal generalisations.

When pressed, merkins become patronising and use dismissive trokes like "virtue signalling" "moral high ground" and "self-righteous".

Circling back to the start of this, the context was that Morrison's apology was smacks of political necessity rather than heartfelt. As Harriet Lerner said during the BLM protests (about hollow words) “More than anything, the hurt party needs to know that we really ‘get it,’ that our empathy and remorse are genuine, that the feelings make sense, that we will carry some of the pain we’ve caused, and that we will do our best to make sure there’s no repeat performance.”

I regret for falling for your "triggering to the left" bait. I usually show more restraint.

You might think Hindy was being lazy and 'minimising', but its far easier to live in denial and pretend that the left are caring and compassionate and that the right are heartless monsters.

I think that's an absurd proposition personally, but whatever gets you through the night.

As for my "triggering to the left" comment triggering you. I agree, it was unnecessarily provocative but in a way you proved the point for me.

Anyway, I don't disagree that ScoMo made a bit of a hash of it, but at least he was honest about where he stands and you can now take it or leave it. He would have been better off saying nothing but probably felt that that wasn't an option.

Nah he just trivialised and minimised.

A lot of privileged educated people in good financial situations love to talk the talk about bringing in refugees, aboriginal rights, equality and a bunch of other stuff. And that's fine.
But your average battler is just to f**king busy trying to just survive and make it through the week.
Is it they don't care or don't have the time to think about things that do not effect their life personaly?

I grew up in Western Sydney and had lots of friends around St Mary's and Mt Druit. Plenty with hearts of gold. But they've had tough lives. They would be judged and looked down on by people from the Eastern suburbs and North shore.

If we wanted a fair system then everyone should hand over whatever they have when they perish. No inheritances. Make it a fair race.
How many merkins would vote for that? I'm sure the generous caring empathetic man known as Gronk would happily do it.

And plenty of my friends are right wing. They are mostly quiet and hard working and always give money to charities. I've seen a few in argument with other friends who swing left when they get called Greedy to which they asked which charities they donate too. It's funny cause the answer we already knew. NONE

I am privileged too I accept that. I am not sugar coating nothing and not playing mother f**king Theresa.
I mean you can take anything you like but you better not take it from me. We are living in a civilised jungle.

Saw that cringeworthy piece on 60 minutes where Scotty basically had his wife apologise on his behalf for the Hawaii holiday during the bushfires amongst other things. They guy is a fake, he will not pass the pub test and I can't wait t see the back of him.

Of bigger concern was that little Communist f**ktard with his veiled threats about the Chinese Communist party being bigger than any other political party in the world and his laughable excuse about that poor tennis player, Peng Shuai. Apparently if you are tall and physically stronger than a man you just can't get raped in China.

You just have to shake your head. f**k me, what a shit regime.

For as long as I can remember my wife has called it "Shitsy Minutes". Trash show that is typically home to the politically desperate. ScoMo joins plenty of pathetic shitbags that have come before him...

That's the disconnect between the liberal left, and the traditional left. The right have moved further right, and the liberal left have become the left as the media describe it.

The true delineation is between labour and capital, it's been lost as the left moved towards neoliberalism with second wave labor, think Tony Blair, Bill Clinton, and even to an extent Paul Keating, now that neo liberalism has won the day, the arguments centre around idpol and other useless nonsense.

Capital has won, at least for now, because all our measurements of effective government have become judgements around the performance of capital.

There really is no longer an effective left, hence the privileged are left to prosecute arguments of the progressive, and oppose the conservative dogma which afforded them the position they now hold.

And the working man just gets on with it and votes for the scraps of what's in it for me.

That's an awesome (albeit slightly dispririting/true) summation...

Though I'd start with references to the (small l) liberal "centre" i.e. Menzies style, rather than to a liberal "left" (even though as you then indicate the media now paints what was centre as left).
