Olympics had no bearing on it, other than maybe some internal optics. US are going to struggle to provide direct assistance, so Taiwan has some protection, but it might give China the impetus to just do it

Because those stupid Americans have convinced Ukraine to join NATO whilst Putin wants Ukraine as a neutral buffer zone against NATO. Problem is that about 30% of people in Ukraine identify as Russian and there are regions there have claimed independence and politically he is going in to protect his people.

In addition Joe Biden feels obligated because the Ukrainian government sent his family millions of dollars during his election campaign against Trump.

In addition Ukraine is not the free and democratic country that the western media wants you to believe. It's not. Their president imprisoned their opposition leader and has closed or banned many alternative media outlets that are against him.

Ukraine was getting to close with Western societies and it pissed them off.
Putin has a bit of a dictatorship going on.

China will be watching closely and how others react.
I predict others will throw a few sanctions on them but in the end Russie will take over the Ukraine. To be fair its not like they where going much good on their own.

The Germans tried to invade Malta in ww2 with the Itlaians and failed miserably. A small island with 400,000 defended itself.

Isn’t life complicated. Kosovo was superficially about the same thing with Albanians living in the Yugo region, and in name of peace, the world called it a humanitarian disaster and awarded the land to the separatists and branded the Serbs merkins.
