Cmon bro. Sydney and most Australian Capital cities has the most unaffordable housing prices in the world. Sydney is either second or third in the world behind Hong Kong- a city in which there's zero space to swing a cat.
It's all government manipulation as to squeeze every last drop out of future generations as to benefit themselves, and the mega rich. Government scammers.

I don't believe that it is govt manipulation to squeeze us all for $.
They just haven't thought the policy through and it is now coming back to bite them. The same would have happened to the other side of politics, although to a lesser extent because they would have cut immigration and that would have been just as bad for the economy without the immigration.
It's just so sad that both sides can f**k this up equally.

This is not unique to Sydney or indeed Australia. Housing affordability in popular OECD capitals is expensive and they too have low vacancy rates.

• Zoning Reforms: It is happening, but people are going to have to STFU when the concrete jungle encroaches upon their little bit of paradise.
• Public Housing Investment: Building more social housing will alleviate some of the pressure on the private market. At the moment, we give rent subsidies to tenants and send them out to the private market. One side of politics doesn’t like to build public housing. Who dat ?
• Rent Controls: Implementing rent controls; as seen in parts of New York, can help prevent price gouging. Oooh that’s controversial and anti-market, because it can also deter investment in rental properties.
• Vacancy Taxes: Introducing taxes on vacant properties owned by investors, as London, Melbourne, Sydney have considered, could incentivize owners to rent or sell vacant homes, boosting housing availability. Merkins who leave their properties empty or for Air BNB need to pony up or face a potential Byron Bay situation where short term rentals are all but banned.

The ashols better stay away from Parramatta Rd. That stretch between Lewisham and Annandale is iconic. So grungy and beat up.

It's like nothing else in Sydney. A bunch of odd bot shops. Quirky and kool. Those businesses will be killed if they develop that area. Which is fine if we want sterile areas like Botany etc....
All the facades will remain because they are within a Conservation Area. So the street scape will be paramount.

This is what is happening in Bondi Junction. Restored to their former glory.

===================

Heritage IS taken seriously in that area too. Ask the dodgy merkin who bought the site next to the Annandale Hotel. He "accidentally" knocked it down and was fined $1M and had his development approval withdrawn.

Our country is growing and we need to adapt and find sensible development solutions. Leaving shit the same isn’t an option.

Stop the immigrants or send them to qld
Sydney's full

On a serious note change is fine. But how many units will you fit on that small stretch. A few thousand people? You need to keep some heritage and soul otherwise it feels like your living in a chook pen.
