The problem is that you are operating under the unexamined assumption that gender is what matters, and that sex doesn’t. The smug claim that sex != gender in no way proves that gender has any importance at all. For many people, gender is only relevant as an indicator of sex. If there is no relation between the two, gender is as relevant as anything else that only exists inside your head. It belongs to the unscientific world of ideas and opinions, and shouldn’t require the forced participation of others.
