The idea is to win the election.

The Labor party and the left has always had its conservative factions and support. The key has always been to balance that with the harder left. Albo is of the left, and a good many folk voted for him because of that.

That's his base, and they feel abandoned.

But to an extent you are probably right, it's too late in the cycle to turn that around. His best hope is likely that come the actual election, when people actually seriously think about their vote, they'll look at Dutton and say no, we'll give the other bloke another go.

No, he’s going to try to retain power by having an absolute crack at the right after the reserve bank cut interest rates twice.

Step 1) RBA cut rates at Feb meeting
Step 2) RBA cut rates a second time over in March or April
Step 3) Albo waits the 30 days it takes for the cuts to be seen in the mortgage deductions
Step 4) Call the election and for 45 days campaign on lowering your mortgage repayments with strong economic management and not risking LNP

I don't think he'll have that luxury, honestly when you read their last minutes, the RBA have little desire to be caught out going too early on rates.

Employment is still above their idea of where NIARU sits, and that is gonna make them super cautious.

That's all true, But the the entire point of higher rates is to offset that although all those things are bad for the economy, high inflation is worse.

I'll likely vote Labor and it won't make any difference because our useless as f**k local member in Kevin Hogan will romp it in due to him being a National, and the Division of Page being a very rural seat. I might vote green to send a message to Albo to stop courting the right, I've not made up my mind yet.

This is an electorate where a bloke that all but f**king disappeared after the 2022 floods, somehow managed to increase his margin in an LNP loss of government.

Scotty was more visible here after the flood, and all he did was the obligatory photo op, and then literally snuck through the back door to meet with council on account of there was a lot of anger around old mate I don't hold a hoses inaction.
