Earlier this week Arnold Frolows, one time 2JJJ presenter and program director passed away. He hosted the Ambient music show on Sunday nights in the 80s. He was also one of the first people to be hired by the station, which incidently will celebrate its 50th anniversary this Sunday. I was one of the shy suburban teenagers who was a listener right from the first broadcast.

Hey Tom, was it Double J when it first started? I also remember listening to the station from the early days. One I can vividly recall was this crazy new style music from an artist named Bob Marley.

It was great radio back in the day.

Yes, 2JJ, 1540 on the AM band. And I remember hearing lots of Bob Marley in the early years too, though I was introduced to Bob Marley and the Wailers via Chris Winter's Room to Move show on 2BL in 1974.

You gotta free me
'cause I can't give the best
Unless I got room to move.

Damn. Out of a bunch of extremely talented musos, Garth was top of their list.
When they asked him to join what was then, The Hawks, Ronnie Hawkins band (which did eventually become The Band), he insisted that every member pay him an extra $10 per week. This was to justify the move to his parents, who he feared would think he was squandering his years of music education by playing in a rock and roll band.

I watched The Last Waltz again last week for about the 150th time.

Personally, this is my favourite song from The Last Waltz.
For those that don't know, Garth is playing those beautiful swirling organ keys.
I'm a little locked.
For pure music, these are the guys to listen to, that's why they got dubbed "The Band"

10 years ago tonight my best friend/brother committed suicide.
We'd been out for my partners birthday in Newtown. Had a great night.
I got a call from his wife at 8am telling me that she found him in their back yard, done.
The ramifications of it all after is still telling to this day.
It personally fecked me up pretty bad.
In the last year I've finally come to terms with it.
I lost my parents when I was 7, so that means I was always gunna be fecked up anyway, but this one probably hit harder because I was aware what went on.
I lost my partner, and some friends, because of it.
Luckily I've since become friends again with my ex and we spent today together as I'm renovating a Unit she bought.
He was no international star, not even national, but I love the Kent like no other.
This was filmed at Petersham Town Hall by his brother. We had his funeral there.
His brother did all the early Powderfinger clips, including the one with Choc. Did a film too, "Pimped".
I'm not going to apologise for any sorrow, this is The Dead Hard Rockers thread, and he was the hardest rocker of all.

Sorry for your loss BBB, it’s an awful thing to happen. Wasn’t my brother but a friend from
School jumped from a hotel room in 2013, no reason why. Funeral in the same church as his wedding 6 weeks prior.

Time does help with healing, but hope you got through today as best you could. RIP BBBBro.

Tragic BBB and sorry for your loss. After some trials within my inner world, all I can say is similar to Oz - time does make it bearable. You never get over it, you sort of get used to it.
Live life as free as can be.
