Hulk Hogan, the wrestling icon and actor who became the most recognized star in the sport, has died. He was 71.

According to the Clearwater Police Department in Florida, Hogan died Thursday morning due to cardiac arrest. He was treated by a rescue crew before being taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, grew up in Florida. The WWE Hall of Fame wrestler, known for walking out to his theme song “Real American,” represented national patriotism within the wrestling world. He soared to fame in the 1980s after winning against the Iron Sheik and cementing “Hulkamania” momentum in one of the most culturally impactful matches of his career. That fight made him the World Wrestling Federation’s heavyweight winner.

RIP Hulk Hogan he was instrumental in taking wrestling from a regional event, to mainstream sporting entertainment, yes never my favourite wrestler but a key to how the business worked.
Then reinvented himself when he switched companies to WCW years later and was able to become a fan favourite with NWO.
RIP Hulk Hogan, without you a question will always be asked would wrestling be where it is today ?

I became a Hulk guy more when the people turned on him at WCW, when he was NWO.
Hulk was key in what sporting entertainment is today, that is what you see.
Not just wrestling but so many sports you see NRL & NFL players doing poses when they score, without Hulk this may never had happened.

RIP Sam Backo, Canberra Brisbane and Queensland prop. A good old school prop who was known for dropping a few expletives in post game interviews.
Yes, my Dad had Sam Backo over to our house shortly after his (Sam’s) retirement.
My Dad was a prison chaplain and Sam was concerned for indigenous people in custody.
I got a photo with him - a really nice bloke.

Sam was my training partner when he was thinking about making a comeback in the QLD Comp for Logan City.

Tom Raudonikis was our Coach, Paul Fisher former Sharkie was our Hooker and Darren Burns Broncos was our Lock with a few other notable ex-NRL players as well.

Not a word of a lie, one night at training it was belting down rain, Sam turns up in the Combi Van drives onto the playing field does a couple of donuts and drives off, parks and then heads over for training.

Tommy just laughed and said that’s an hour of laps for you! After about 15 minutes, they are both sitting down having a puff together. Sam decided not to play that year, but it was awesome to train with him and learn from one of the best.

RIP Big Man.

RIP Terry Reid, British singer from the 60s, 70s and beyond who is known to be the guy who knocked back Jimmy Page's invitation to join Led Zeppelin. He recommended another singer, Robert Plant and drummer John Bonham. Terry also knocked back an invitation to join Deep Purple, before Ian Gillan was invited to join.

His 1973 album River is a career highlight.
