Haven't seen it. Heard a hell of a lot of people are bleating about anti-semitism though.

Jews are angry that it portrays them as bloodthirsty savages.
I read and saw reports that it is extremely violent.
Gibson only agree at the last minute to allow english subtitles. Otherwise it's all in Latin and some ancient Jewish dialect.
Gibson is a staunch Catholic and from what I read attends a church where the traditional Latin dialogue is used.

It's all a bit weird for my liking.

I think I prefer the Life of Brian!

I've seen it and anyone who is a Christian will be deeply affected by it. It's the last 12 hours of Jesus' life, very violent and faithfully follows the Biblical accounts. The film is in Latin and Aramaic, the languages spoken at the time and it is a little distracting following the subtitles, though you don't really need to as anyone with a rudimentary grasp of the Bible will be able to follow it.

As for anti-Semiticism, it is a fact, according to the Bible at least, that the Jewish money lenders were responsible for pressuring the Romans to do something about Jesus after he trashed their temple. Everyone was bloodthirsty at the time and I don't think it portrays them in any worse light than the Romans.

I agree with you there Lolesi. The best biblical film ever made.

Wolf nipple chips, get them while they're hot, they're lovely.

Though Mel chose Latin for the Movie, Scholars believed it should have been in Ancient Greek.
I'll be going to see it.

I'd like to see it too, General.
From my studies, Koine Greek was the main language spoken in the eastern part of the Roman Empire and Latin was the main language of the western part. Judea was in the eastern part.
Perhaps Mel has used Latin as it was the language of the early Roman Catholic Church.
I believe Koine Greek was a language developed in the time of Alexander the Great to facilitate orders given to his troops, as they spoke several different languages and tranlation was unwieldy, too slow and dangerous when giving orders in battle. Koine Greek was retained as a major language in eastern Europe and the Middle East in Roman times.
I believe that the Bible's New Testament was originally written in Koine Greek, Attic Greek and Aramaic. The Old Testament I believe was written in Hebrew.
