Great link Suitman, some good history and pictures in the middle of that report.

Am I missing something here on pg28... I never knew this stuff about the Magpies?

The ongoing battle between the football codes for use of Cumberland Oval flared again in 1937. The Parramatta Rugby Union Club declined to share the ground despite the ‘generous offer’ of the Rugby League Club to pay the Union Club’s total rental. This was a temporary setback to the Western Suburbs Rugby League Club’s plans to enter a first grade team in the Sydney competition which did eventuate the following year. In November 1939, the Western Suburbs Rugby League Club made Parramatta their headquarters, and their request to hold two or three matches on Cumberland oval was granted by the Trustees for the nest season. The Parramatta Rugby League Club broke away from the parent Western Suburbs club, and played its first game in 1947 against Eastern Suburbs. Cumberland Oval remained the home ground of the Parramatta Eels until 1981.

I didn't either but magpie4ever has made a few comments about the Eels being breakaway traitors. This must be what he meant.

Because twiz, there are inadequate corporate facilities, not enough ticketing outlets, food and Beverage outlets are outdated and inadequate, toilets are inadequate, function room space is limited, access to facilities from grandstands is poor, wheelchair access is poor and the end terraces are wasted space with advertising hoardings obstructing views to scoreboard and replay screen.

Do I need to go on? Stadium refurbishments are not just about capacity.

Interesting that they acknowledged 'One Eyed Eel' for some of the photos. Figure 27 is my photo for sure and certain. I posted it on this site several years ago.

That's exactly right. FP.
Twiz, the total anticipated spend on the upgrade over 5 stages is $80 million. This is stage 1 at a cost of 25 million. Be patient.

After seeing the plans, I have my concerns that this upgrade hasn't been thought through properly, with regards to future expansion.
Parramatta Stadium is hemmed in by tight boundaries, so there is very little scope to expand outside the current fence line, which is the original fence line/boundary of the old Cumberland Oval. This was one of the concessions when the stadium was originally designed. It is why the extensions to the north and south terraces are curved at the back.
I find it hard to see how they are going to design another 7-8000 seats into expansion. Height limits are also an issue, so going up could also be problematic.
I hope this isn't an ill thought out design to please the masses for the short term.

I suggest anyone who might be interested in the history of the site to read the "Statement of Heritage Impact" report. There's some cracking photos, including one of the old Cumbo stand going up in flames.
parra pete - you would love this report.

Parra Stadium's a funny place. One of the most emotional experiences of my life was taking my daughter onto the field after Manly flogged us there last year. It was f**king amazing and it still chokes me up a little when I think about it.

And that's when I realised I must be gay.
