I don't need a roof. Put the fans undercover and don't make the seats too squishy (like ANZ). That's all we need.

Apparently if you do that you have to resurface it and change all the turf to a special turf that will grow with a lot less sun because even when the roof is open the turf is only in the sun when the sun is directly overhead which is midday in January. In winter the northern part of the ground is permanently in the shade.

There has been a lot of issues with the playing surface at Etihad in Melbourne and complaints from the AFL players.

The amount of structural changes you would have to make to the existing structures would also be horrendous, not to mention the cost of the roof itself.

Hard to put a figure on it but has to $30-50 million if you built it from scratch, as a renovation it was be alot more.

They just need to get a bit of Sir Walter in there. That shit grows great in the shade.

You think having a roof will get the crowds in when it's raining?
A few drops of rain and merkins don't want to even leave their house, even if they are going to be sitting undercover.
Playing in the elements is part of the sport.
I will grant you that it would be good for concerts and the like though.

This is a stadium in Dunedin called Forsyth Barr. Pretty standard ground with 30,000 capacity. Recently they covered it with a few coat hangers and gladwrap.

Merkins have a population of only 140,000 and their ground shits on ours.

It wasn't recently covered. It was built like that originally for the last Rugby World Cup.

This is perfect for the Eels and Wanderers.
$100 million dollars it cost, for Mainz, in Germany. 34 000 capacity.

And the perfect end for the RBB.......

Coface Arena is excellent but it's built on a flat expanse of ground surrounded by farmland with not a tree, building or powerline within 100m. That keeps construction costs down.

It's a similar story with most of these massive American stadiums.

So when are they deciding what to do?

Who f**king knows?
The cheap shit upgrade was supposed to begin in October. Since then, I think there has been further pressure from the Wanderers and things might be progressing along a different, more expansive path......hence the delay in construction.
Or, so I've heard, anyway.

Major things will be happening shortly.

The process was delayed by the Wanderers playing Al Hilal at Pirtek.

But, the process is as slow as a wet rag.

By doing this small upgrade it will be harder to renovate it any further. They're better off holding onto the $29 mill, saving it up for a year or 2 and then knocking down Parra stadium completely and building the 35k seat stadium. I'd much rather a 35k seat stadium in 5 years time than a 24k seat stadium for 5 years and then having to go through all of this crap again when the Wanderers and Eels out-grow the stadium as it is.

To be honest, even with a 35k stadium, the Eels ought to play Tigers and Dogs at Homebush still. The 50k crowd was allegedly very blue and gold.

At least that is what Jodeci told me.
