OT: Parra Stadium sharing

Is that at Parra?
How likely is it to be built?

Yes. It's Parra.
Knowing the State Govt's current stadium policy which is to centralise as many games as possible to ANZ and Allianz, this isn't likely. Then again, they do plan to build a 3rd major stadium in Sydney's west.
Problem is, the current state sports minister is the minister for the Penrith area, and he's being pressured by Gould and the Panthers to build the 3rd stadium there.

Thankfully, the Wanderers have some very powerful businessmen on their side - Paul Lederer, (Primo Small Goods) Glen Duncan (Pirtek) and also Frank Lowy (Westfield) to lobby the govt and shut Gould up.

It's quite clear that if Sydney is to have a 3rd stadium, it should be at Parra. It has the best transport links, is central to all of western Sydney, has the city night life and entertainment hub in place, and the amount of development planned for the city in the next 30 years is phenomenal.

It's a no brainer really.

Did anyone see the story? What did they say?? Was it likely???

Highly likely, money has already been earmarked from the NSW and Federal Governments. Light rail stop at the door as part of the new western light rail network.

Expect both the Eels and Wanderers to be playing in the interim out of ANZ for each of their respective next 3 seasons whilst stadium is being built.

Walk of Fame will be commissioned as well, with statues of Pricey, Sterlo and Hayne (plus Shinji Ono and Tony Popovic from the WSW) already given the green light as the initial members.

Lobbying still being done by local heavy weights to ensure stadium catering includes chip rolls.

They should build the new stadium next to the old one. Then we can have the new one and the soccer merkins can have the old one.

Makes sense to me.

Thanks mate, sounds fantastic. Has anyone got a link to the story?

Oh don't worry, I found it. Cheers.

I think Hayne's statue has been already installed elsewhere.

This mornings result couldn't have hurt the chances of the upgrade occurring. Parra Stadium now home to the best team in Asia

We don't need a roof.
That oughta save a few bucks.

Of course it needs a roof. I'm sick of shit weather spoiling games and keeping the crowds away. League struggles as it is with crowds, it needs all the help it can get.

Put a roof on it!

Apparently if you do that you have to resurface it and change all the turf to a special turf that will grow with a lot less sun because even when the roof is open the turf is only in the sun when the sun is directly overhead which is midday in January. In winter the northern part of the ground is permanently in the shade.

There has been a lot of issues with the playing surface at Etihad in Melbourne and complaints from the AFL players.

The amount of structural changes you would have to make to the existing structures would also be horrendous, not to mention the cost of the roof itself.

Hard to put a figure on it but has to $30-50 million if you built it from scratch, as a renovation it was be alot more.
