We need a hard head bro.
Green has a good footy brain, no doubt, but he also had the privilege of having JT in the premiership winning squad. Someone who demands discipline is what is needed by us.

@Crush

Had to bump my own post lol.

He was destined to win a title. Agree.

Green is a funny one to work out. However, he did deliver a title, even allowing for JT. Time will tell how much Green was pivotal. Everyone knows JT was.

Many people overlook the fact that Demetriou was an integral part of the coaching brains trust when the Cowboys won their first premiership.
Green is bog average in my opinion.
Well spoken but not an elite NRL coach by any stretch.
I don’t think you’re being fair on Green. One of the key attributes that I’d look at when looking for a head coach is their ability to surround themselves with talented assistants, and their ability to identify who those assistants should be.

Like all great leaders, coaches need to know their own flaws, and surround themselves with people who can fill the gaps in their ability.

As Mary has shown, it doesn’t matter who you have on staff if you’re too arrogant to let them use their talents.

I honestly think Green will be judged at the end of his coaching career. The JT thing will linger, as it did with Hagan at Newcastle. But yeah, even with all the cattle, you need more. Support staff and an ability to navigate the "stars". How many talented / gifted players have never won a title.

A hundred percent. There are so many factors that need to come together to win a title. Sometimes it’s good management, and sometimes it’s dumb luck.

I think a lot of people forget how bad JT was on the 2015 GF. If he hadn’t kicked the field goal it could easily be described as a disastrous performance.

I'm tipping that:
Green will go to the Warriors
Barrett will go to the Dogs

He’s a premiership winning coach & good luck to him but for some reason or another he’s let some major talent go in recent years. Ponga, Kikau & Hughes to name a few.

Mary has also surrounded himself with competent assistants, none better than the current lifeguards.
That hasn't made him a leader or a competent coach.
Both Green and McGregor have had 7 years at the helm and Green's legacy compared to McGregor's is worthy of acclaim.
2 Grand Finals and one premiership from memory?
The second one came after we flopped in the last round against the Dogs and, incredulously, got relegated to 9th and gave the wounded Cowboys a leg up into the final 8.
Their run into the finals without Thurston was amazing and a real underdog story.
So maybe you're right and Green should be given more credit for his time at the Cowboys.
Our guy is just not qualified to run a FG NRL Team.

My point with Mary is that leadership requires both the smarts (or in some cases luck) to surround yourself with talent, and also the ability to understand the strengths of those people and let them do what they’re good at.

Green utilized the skills of Demitriou. Mary doesn’t seem to have the capacity to let go of control in a way that properly utilizes the skills of others.

The smartest people I know are aware of how dumb they are in some areas. But smart enough to see when someone else is capable.
