Souths made them look a lot better than they are. Souths are very ordinary at this stage of the season, but they too will improve. Langy might have been out of it too long..coaching like Chris Anderson when he came back....
Agreed. South butchered a few chances and threw some silly passes. Cronulla gave away some silly penalties as well and their defence for the first try was just atrocious.
But one thing I noticed was that the dummy-half service was crisp. Their hooker usually passed the ball in one motion - no stepping. I don't remember MK doing the two step in 2008 but it crept in at some point in 2009.
I noticed also that the way the Sharks forwards positioned themselves in the tackles greatly affected the impact of the Souths defence in the next tackle. eg if the Sharks player being tackled went down quickly the play the ball was quicker and the subsequent defence was less effective presumably because the line had less time to react. But if the Sharks player tried to have a second wrestle when it was reasonably clear that they were fully tackled the Souths line had extra time to set and the next hit-up was met with rush defence.
Most of quick play the balls resulted in good metres for the Sharks. If they could attack well they would've scored more points. For us it shows that the way the forwards submit in the tackle, the way they position themselves etc greatly affects the play the ball as does the dummy half service. If we get that right this time - we'll win. But that said, the Sharks were doing some good things just not all the things that you need to do to win a football game.
