It's a combo of being a lot colder than Sydney, 3 hrs from the nearest beach, crappy nightlife and being far away from players mates/families. There is also Ricky Stuart

Best three years of my life were at UNE in Armidale. Bloody freezing, no where near the beach and just basic, normal pubs, and no where near my family. No Ricky Stuart though, so I see your point.

If i were a player, the only problem for me to go to Canberra would be leaving my family and mates in Syd.

I like the cold, not too fussed on beaches and if i go out it's just normally to a pub or bowlo. So i'd be set.

Sign me up Ricky.

I don't get the Canberra hate either. The media always talk up the "no night life" angle, but I'd say it's the moving away from home aspect that players hate more than anything, and that applies to half the teams if you are talking about a player from Sydney.

I've worked there and it's a dull , boring , freezing cold in winter , super hot in summer, yet super clean bastard of a place . The only place I've ever been to where the locals class a place 30kms away " just down the road " .

It's 90 mins to the beach and 2 1/2 hours from the snow of that's your sort of thing.

As for nightlife. Maybe go and ask Todd Carney and Josh Dugan if they could find enough fun out in Canberra. They certainly found enough trouble.

As for Nightlife for an NRL footballer these days, the Titans have banned all players from their club going to any Club except for the Titanium Bar on the Gold Coast apparently.

There are no boring places, just boring people.

Can't argue with your description of the climate though! Love the four seasons.

I wonder what Stuart's state of mind is right now. He looked like a beaten man during that press conference a few weeks ago. He can't be enjoying it. I reckon he will quit before he's sacked.

If he cannot sign any players for next season I think he will walk.

Realistically if they go into next season with essentially the same team minus Milford, it will be a long long season.

Players should be on alcohol bans throughout the season (whether it's club or self imposed)

Yeah I can agree with that . I actually did find some pretty good pubs around the outer suburbs. It was actually the general look of the place I meant when I said boring , just the bleakness of the buildings and it all looks the bloody same . I must say but I rather enjoyed having as much smut and pussy as I could consume at either end of town .

Do you recall the names of any of these pubs?

I lived in Canberra when I first left home.

The Private Bin, Tropicana, Mooseheads..... Was fantastic night life in Civic. 24 hours service at some as well.

Plenty of things to do on the weekend...

The weather was the only difficult thing.

The Kingston ? , that one was cool cause they had one of those cook your own steak set ups ...

Umm another was right behind the Suites On Northbourne no idea what suburb it was .

Another was somewhere near Kingston but wasn't Kingston and was a bit la di daa and was kind of a pub but more like a bar , I remember it was Melbourne cup day and the whole street was a buzz , I ducked in to watch The Cup and put my company credit card on the bar only to meet some nice lass's and leave at 2am with a $500 tab . Had a seafood restaurant upstairs and a joint next door that sold weird meals like emu and camel .

The whole 8 weeks I was down there was like a work funded piss up in the days of unlimited PCards so I floated from restaurant to restaurant , pup to pub each night .
