to be fair what draw cards are there to living down in Canberra? I mean Canberra itself is alright nice clean city but the actual suburbs are pretty rough and not that great.

Playing for a club in sydney allows you to live anywhere within a 30 - 60km distance depending how long you want to travel. So a lot can live in the beach suburbs pretty easily.

Rough suburbs? Lol. Even the worst suburbs aren't rough.

I love Canberra and I loved growing up here, but let's face it - it will always have an image problem. It will always be seen by outsiders to be cold, boring, sterile etc. If I was a cashed up twenty something, I wouldn't want to live here either.

Raiders need to think outside the box and try to find some positives to lure young talent.

In Canberra you get a much nicer place for your money and don't have to waste your life sitting in Sydney traffic.

Of course it's good value for money. Supply v demand makes it cheaper cos no merkin wants to live there. Plus the recent budget announced 6.500 ACT public service jobs were axed. That will lead to an exodus I expect.

BTW, it's leasehold rather than freehold in ACT.

Cheaper? Canberra is ridiculously overpriced as far as houses go. Have a look at allhomes.com.au. An entry level three bedroom place will set you back about 400k. As far as leasehold goes for all practical purposes, it is no different to buying anywhere else. I doubt the Crown will take my land back when I'm 130.

To say people don't want to live here is ridiculous. Some of us like the compromise of living in a 'medium' sized city rather than a big city like Sydney or Melbourne. Some of us like having a little coast house and doing weekend trips to the beach. Some of us like snow trips during the winter. There are many good reasons to live here, but I can understand why it is seen the way it is.

Like I said though, as a young bloke with money and spare time, I would be living in Sydney or Melbourne. Even the Gold Coast. When I was younger I lived in Melbourne for a while and Gold Coast for a while. Now as a family man, Canberra is a good fit.

Belconnen isn't a suburb, it's a district containing about 28 suburbs. Charnwood has the worst reputation but even that suburb has some decent houses.

Worked in Canberra for a while, the place is a shit hole full of idiots!!! The place is extremely overpriced considering how much vacant land there is down there (blame the ACT for there land release policies). Traffic is crazy during peak times !! And on Friday afo you really need to finish early if u want beat the people leaving the town for the weekend or you travel time is doubled

If clubs want to sell them self on the cost housing/lifestyle Newcastle, dragons, cowboys should win by a country mile!!! All have fairly decent house prices / very few traffic problems and a nice beach lifestyle compared to the Sydney clubs.

Makes me laugh how people in Canberra think Charnwood is rough, it aren't rough at all compared to some suburbs in Sydney. A few run down houses doesn't make a suburb rough

Wasn't having a go at you, just my experience of being down there.

All good mate. I know you weren't. Like I said earlier, I understand why people don't like the joint, but for some of us, it's a great place to live.

I don't see how the Raiders are ever going to be able to attract star signings here unless it is for massive overs. Tedesco isn't a city boy so moving here probably isn't an issue for him.

Plenty of rugby league players are from the country.

True. But what do they do, just target young players from the country? They were lucky to have so many country boys and local juniors for years (Crocker, Daley, Clyde, Mullins et al) that all wanted to play here.
