Well he did win a premiership in his first season at the Roosters.

I like how you're consistently inconsistent about this. When it comes to your position on coaches and their performance, you are unambiguously vague.

Keep up the good work.

What are you on about? I have always maintained you can't judge a coach based on results in his first season at a club. I like Brad Arthur but he has a solid team and he has gotten solid results. Recently we were hit hard by injury and accordingly were poor.

I never liked Ricky Stuart but he inherited a team that had run last and then had an injury crisis throughout the year. He blooded some talented youngsters (possibly too soon) and signed two good spine players. I think he left us in better shape and it shows.

As for what's happening in Canberra, I am reserving judgement in accordance with my previous statement about a coach's first season.

Your problem is you're looking for an agenda that isn't there, which says a lot about your own mentality.

Nah Pou,
Gronk is just trying to figure out how you give Kearney a pass mark for his second season, and for signing plodders like Ryan, Lussick, Allgood, Harrison (etc) on massive, massive overs.

It's a fair question isn't it???

Well Jayne was injured before the season began and by Origin time Luke Lewis confirmed Sticky would be Parra's new coach.

As for signing nuffies on overs, they obviously weren't coming here for anything less, and we already spent most of our budget on big names Hopoate, Sandow and Tonga (who also wouldn't come for less than overs).

With merkins refusing to come for market value it's understandable why the focus on youth (#'academy') and talk of a five year timeline. Anything else was unrealistic.

I dunno. I love Ricky and I always will. But for the first time ever I'm starting to wonder if, well, maybe he wasn't the best coach we've had since Gibson. Does anybody else feel that way?

I doubt you will find anyone on here that will agree with you... :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

Sorry mate, I still think there's no excuse to pay Matt Ryan $220k... Nobody else was even interested in him - and that was the probably the best deal SK did!!
If he was still here, we'd still be last, and the juniors would still be signing elsewhere.

In his time, he lost Seumanufagai, Dan Tupou, Jorge Taufua (and Gagan) - that's just off the top of my head!
It's not like the good juniors suddenly stopped leaving while he was here...

But if we'd kept those guys it would have stifled Toutai's development.

If no one else was interested in him we wouldn't have had to pay that much. That's how the market works.

Which juniors did we lose while Kearney was here? Because I know we lost Mitchell Moses after 2010 (meaning we failed to retain him that year).

Seumanufagai and Tupou both graduated from the NYC (and were off contract) at the end of 2011 - they were subject to normal market forces and our pathways to first grade were clogged with reserve graders at the time - both players spent 2012 in the NSW Cup. If we'd had room they could have played NSW Cup for Wenty. But we didn't.

Taufua played NYC for Manly in 2011, meaning we failed to retain him in 2010. And why was a 19 year old off contract anyway?

As for Gagan, it's true he was released at the end of 2012 but we weren't the only club to let him go. Manly didn't want him either and we have better wing options than him, including Semi Radradra who we signed in 2011 for 2012.
