OT: The official "Put Sh!t on Ricky HERE" thread

The Raiders board is now just run by former public service department heads. Public servants wouldn't know how to sack someone to save their own lives.

Actually if they're true to public service form, Sticky will get a contract extension with a pay rise...

Well, the Chairman is a former public service boss, and there are two current or former DFAT guys, but there are 4 guys from industry and one bloke who is a professional lobbyist.

I think you will also find that the head of the Raiders sponsor, Huawei, is one of their former public service mates also...

Job for the boys really...

I think as a set of fans, you guys are very ingrateful.

Not one of you, not f**king one, has thanked Ricky for the win last night, & you're improved performance in general.

You know, deep down, that this on the back of his handy work.

To be fair, if Sticky didn't build his 2002 premiership squad then Brad Arthur didn't build our current roster.

Yes, but you could argue sticky had little influence as a coach, based on results being so similar to prior years.

I agree 100% Sticky had little influence - he was only here for 12 months.

You can't make that argument for Arthur.

Arthur's has had Hayne and Sandow available nearly every week. Last year they missed 18 games between them due to injury and mental illness, respectively.

Are we overperforming this year or did we underperform last year? Which season best reflected the strength of the squad?

Told ya b4 Poo. When players hate their coach they extend injury time (Hayne). And who caused Sandows mental illness. Ill give ya one guess but you might need a few.

Agreed. You either perform or underperform.

Since Brian Smith every coach except Sticky has gotten the team to perform in their first season. It has been their second season where the team has underperformed.

If having to win your last game of the season to avoid a wooden spoon was performing in SK's first season you are an idiot.

Even if we did have the worst roster in the comp in 2011, which is debatable, it's still more than likely we underperformed. Every year plenty of teams underperform. In the salary-cap era, I wouldn't mind betting that any team that finished within 1 point of the wooden spooners underperformed.

Was our squad that different from the 2010 one? Which was still in contention for the finals until the final few rounds, despite knowing that our coach was a sitting duck. I think peoples' perceptions of a team's strength is strongly influenced by their results. We weren't that bad.

Before 2011 we lost:

Cayless
Grothe (though he only played 8 games in 2010)
Inu
Keating
Mateo
Tahu

Plus Justin Poore only played four games in 2011 (23 in 2010). However Shackleton played 23 games in 2011 (after only one in 2010).

So what you're saying is that we didn't actually lose anyone of value between 2010 and 2011? :D

AFAIK, Whalan has been a lobbyist for 20-odd years, and was an MLA before that, and a ministerial adviser before that. They get sacked all the time.

I agree that they're not going to fire RS any time soon (it was me who raised that point).....but it has not much to do with the fact that members of board are former bureaucrats. Parramatta's chair is a former manager from the public service. He seemed to be happy to fire the CEO.

I think he still is mate.

Well Sticky won't probably win the wooden spoon this year, but with Milford leaving, I think he is a dead set certain to win it next year.

Do you remember the team we had that year?
We should have come dead last....but we didn't. Probably the best that Kearney could have achieved.
Is that the year we only avoided coming dead last with a win in our final game?

Being in a position where you were within one result of coming last is probably not something to credit to good coaching... the only thing that avoided the spoon that day was more likely a one-off dose of player pride?
