I agree. I say this every year (so I'll say it again, so that next year I'll still be able to say I say it every year) but I reckon it's ridiculous that, in a sixteen team competition, half of those teams end up making the finals. Absolute joke. Parramatta shouldn't even be thinking about finals with that points differential.

I, personally, don't think it matters.

The ultimate reward (ie: the Premiership trophy) is awarded to the team that makes the Finals, makes the Grand Final and wins the Grand Final.

What did season-long consistency earn us in 2001 and 2005?

We came within a whisker of winning the 2009 Premiership - from 8th position.

No - to me, if you make the 8, your season up to that point is irrelevant.

As I said in a post above....the Cowboys came 3rd with a -70 points differential a few years back. Did they not deserve to make the 8?

I agree that having a final 8 in a 16 team competition is a bit weird, but I don't lose any sleep over it. At the end of the day if you're not up to it and sneak into the 8....you lose in the first week of the finals. No great injustice there.

Has a team who finished the premiership rounds on negative for and against ever won the comp or even made the Grand Final?

I don't get why people don't like the top 8.
What's wrong with half the teams playing Finals? Makes it more interesting for most fans.
Plus, more games is always a good thing for those of us who like to watch football. And it's more money from the TV networks.

I really don't see any downside whatsoever.

It's the top 8 to keep fans interested. Can't seen much wrong with it, as the better teams normally win.

I think people largely assume that the first 'system' that they see when they are growing up is the innately correct one. E.g. many people brought up watching soccer in the major soccer playing countries are perfectly happy with a system whereby the 'minor premier' is the 'major premier', and suggestions of a semi-final system appear unfair to the team that has racked up most points during the year. They could understandably see even a Top 4 as unfair. At the other end of the spectrum, with major US sports and their conference systems, teams qualify for the play-offs with inferior win-loss records than some that miss out. Seattle made the NFL playoffs with a 7-9 record a few years back. I don't think any system is inherently right or wrong.

Any one watch the tigers / raiders game? Raiders were pretty bad, they struggled to put the tigers away who missed 36 tackles, had a completion rate of 56%.

We were on +3 going in the finals in 2009, and made the grand final

only if the dragqueens scored one more try in rd 26 that year :-s

No matter what happens with other games this Round, we need to burn the Raiders.

A dominant display will finish us off for the year, justify our mid table position and f**k with Ricky's head.

Doubt it mate, Raiders will get us

its in Canberra, and we are deflated

Raiders by 30 plus

:(

No chance, we haven't put two bad performances together all year, we normally play extremely well after a flogging.

Also Canberra's form aren't that good, they have managed two wins from the sharks/tigers who are basically nsw cup sides, their last win before that was in may against the cowboys minus their origin players.

Update - they also got a win against the titans ( with Titan players backing up from origin)
