Rugby league star Johnathan Thurston has been arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour in Brisbane's CBD.
North Queensland Cowboys skipper Thurston and another man were arrested about 4.15am (AEST) today for disorderly behaviour.
Police said two Townsville men, aged 25 and 27, were arrested after a disturbance at the intersection of Queen and George streets but would not confirm that Thurston was one of those men.
The two, believed to be being held at the Brisbane City Watchhouse, have been charged with public nuisance and will appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 6.
Media reports say Thurston and another man were arrested after behaving in a disorderly manner in George Street near the Treasury Casino.
Cowboy Willie Tonga was with the pair but was not arrested, the ABC and the Nine Network reported.
Police spoke to the group and Thurston allegedly laughed at the officers, the Courier Mail and Nine said.
Thurston and the other man are then alleged to have wrestled each other on to the roadway, ending up on top of a taxi, the Courier Mail said.
Police said the pair was arrested "for their own safety".
"Both were grossly intoxicated," an unnamed police officer told the newspaper.
"Nobody minds people going out and having a good time, but when they're spoken to by police they really need to pull their heads in."
Australian rugby league captain Darren Lockyer said Thurston would be "pretty shattered right now".
"It's not great timing," Lockyer told Nine.
"Obviously he is coming back from an injury and he wants to press his claims for a Test jersey in the Four Nations this year.
"It's not good but I've known Johnathan for a long time, he's a decent bloke and we'll just have to not pass judgment on it till we know the full details."
Thurston was charged with public drunkenness after being arrested outside his flat semi-naked in 2008.
