I know its easy to give a team a wrap when they're thumping a hapless Eels outfit, but in terms or teams who might threaten this year, Canberra could be smokies. Strange is a real find, while Timoko, Savage and Fogarty are stepping up. They've even got Rapana and Levi looking like quality spine players. Attitude appears to be on as well. A good regular season into a prelim in Canberra and who knows?

Their spine has been excellent so far and I say that as someone who thinks Rapana is a thug and Levi is a meme. Really good blend of youth and experience across the squad too.

And cmon I think we all have enough humanity in us to appreciate the idea of Canberra going deep this year while Simple Jack gets a spoon.

I think we have some issues Ivan Cleary needs to address, I’m not talking just 2024 but more going forward.

As for your main team, the Eels, there are serious issues even allowing for the huge loss that is Mitchell Moses.

What are Penriths issues?

Eels need a 9, some backs and edge forward. Gutherson and forward are getting old. Almsot a rebuild will be needed.

Well for starters we have two mainstay front rowers signed on long term deals who perhaps are in decline rather than peaking.

JFH used to churn out 15-20 hit ups a game and regularly make 150-200 running metres. He is no longer capable of the beast performances week in week out.

Moses has never been a big minute, huge metres player capable of game changing performances but barely does he do it on a week in week out basis.
