Any half decent coach has this squad in the top 4.

I agree. I think Browns going to turn out a better than average coach.

We really need to look at Brennan if we miss the 8, he's coached so many of our fg squad in the NYC and nsw cup and his record at those level is brilliant. I don't understand why he hasn't been hired already by some club. The cup side this year is young and has had so much player turnover, the spine especially and they just keep doing well.

Brown was always going to be a bit underrated based on his first gig. There's no rookie coach who's going to do well coaching dudes he'd been playing with only a few years before.

How we have only managed to beat one team in the top 8 boggles the mind
The bottom 5 account for 9 of our 11 wins. While this indicates we've been hit in the arse with a rainbow in the draw this year, these bottom five teams have won 31 games between them, all against teams we are competing with, none of them against us. That is why we are (just) in the 8.

Of course it must be pointed out that if they had beaten us they may not be in the bottom 5. We would.

He mentioned we are not playing good football (dropped ball, missed tackles) and that our current style of play isn't great (griffins strategies). Can't really disagree with him on those points but if we win this weekend we should be ok.
North Queensland may struggle to stay in with games against Cronulla, Wests and Brisbane.

Not sure missed tackles in particular is a great barometer of defence. We've conceded 66 tries, which is pretty much appropriate for our position on the ladder, and just slightly below the average of all teams.

Yeah I agree, we are still missing a lot of tackles apparently but I think the defence as a whole has definitely improved. We scramble very well so as the individual numbers don't mean much l.

I personally would rather be playing slightly above average and winning most/all games then have the occasional great game then lose the week after (see Canberra, Dragons, Manly, Eels etc).

Plenty of teams in the scrap for 4 - 9, not even the Sharks are safe IMO. Great chance to prove ourselves the next 4 weeks, I can't wait.

Lol The old 'any other coach' line which is said as if it's fact, yet it's impossible to prove.

I reckon Girds is going in for a bit of motivational work here, remembering how the 2003 side of which he was a member was written off left, right and centre.

He has written us off a few times on NRL tonight the past 18 months. Each time we bounce back the following week.
