And that's been generous, we have pretty much two reserve grade squad with a sprinkling of first graders and promising young blokes.

Tepai? thought he looked out of his depth again and was inept defensively in the first half.

Norman (with a solid half along side him)
Semi (worst game ever today but usually dependable)
Peats
Ma'u
Hoppa

thats about it

Agree with the OP, except M'au is good enough for a grand final winning starting spot - and Mannah doesn't get anywhere near a grand final winning 17.

Some people think there isn't a cap - you can't have rep quality in each position. Gee Shane Perry and Sean Rudder are GF winning halves.

Yep, and the above players were surrounded by teams full of quality/rep players. Unlike our team.

Er, pretty much all of them.

For example, Terepo isn't very good, but Souths would still have won the grand final last year if he was on the bench instead of Jason Clark.

The problem isn't that some of the players are outright terrible and would be massive liabilities for any side, but that such a large percentage of the side is mediocre. Every team has mediocre players in its squad, and they do pop up in grand final winning teams at times.. just not in the numbers the exist at the Eels.

Exactly, you need a team of solid talent and then you can afford a few average players or players not up to that level. At the Eels we are full of average players. The players I listed at the start of this are players I think we can win a Grand Final with, (not superstars), but we need a lot more quality around them than what we have.

The question isn't 'can our team win a grand final', it's 'who could be in a grand final winning team'. The answer is any of them. We're bringing in more rep players next year too.

Not all of them though. Only a handful of our current players I'd be confident in performing at Grand Final level intensity. Those are the players I listed to start this conversation. We have a team full of average players mixed in with a few good players. We need a lot more. Foran and Scott alone won't be enough. If we think those two will be enough to save us next year, sorry but its not going to happen.

Why do Pauli and Tepai get so much love on here, but Terepo gets pasted? They're all about the same levelat this stage...Tepai was easily worse than Peni yesterday but people are slobbering over him...
