OUR ROSTER IS *&^%

Pretty ridiculous that he was in the squad over Packer last night.
I agree, in fact, Packer must be made to play today and I'd pick him against the Panthers, if he's not happy about being dropped and playing reserves, show it today and make the coach pick you next week.

To me it's simple - what is the best option for the team. Liddle just gives us some punch up the middle. His service is better and he is more threatening. Farah isn't playing poorly but Liddle is better.
The forwards and team as a whole has bigger issues than flicking Farah for Liddle though.

Our squad is weak however we basically gifted the Roosters 3 tries. We get into the tussle with teams then we have make a dumb fk error (Marsters last night) and the other team 9/10 times capitilise

We need a forward who actually bends the line, atm we have maybe Mikaele that's it. Our backs are slow, there is a lot to work on there. In short, Cleary f**ked our roster.

Aloiai bends the line as well. Him and Mikaele are rotating I think because Maguire knows those two provide some go forward. Matulino does his job but he lacks the impact that Mikaele and Aloiai provide.

We just two more forwards that bends line and hits hard. Braden Hamlin-Uele would be good.

I started writing something about the pros and cons of each player but I got up to marsters and it got too depressing.

Looking at Melbourne and the rorters as the benchmark we need to always be on the lookout to upgrade every position.

An example is Thompson. I love the bloke. If every player in the team had as much heart as him we'd win a lot more. He is however too small to be a force. We need to be ruthless and while it would hurt it he needs to be moved on.

This is the sort of thinking we need otherwise were just waiting our time

I would keep Thompson for sure. He isn't the issue. He is the sort of player that also allows you to purchase a higher value player. You can't have a team of superstars.

We have a half decent squad of forwards then the other half are appalling Packer,Eisenhuth,Matulino,McQueen for example.

The roosters do. That's why they won the comp last and barring some disaster will again this year.

The Broncos of the 90s. Canberra 80s/90s. Storm in the 00s. All superstar teams. This is what we need to aspire to be. If not we might get another comp in 30 years or so

No denying it.....roster wise, we should be dead last.

We have the second worst roster; Canterbury hold the ignominious honour of the worst.
Ceteris paribus we should be finishing 15th, so anything better than that is an overachievement.
On a more positive note: we're starting to build the skeleton of a good team and we have a very good coach.
The likes of Matterson, Twal, Aloiai and Mikaele are a good, young forward pack who will only improve (I'd even include Chee-Kam in there - he has improved markedly under Madge's tutelage). We just need to trim away some of the dead wood, which will happen organically over coming seasons as contracts expire.
Liddle showed enough last night to convince me that he's our future feeder from the ruck...he just needs to stay fit.
I'm not sure what to make of Mbye; he was a weapon at the back last year and was even looking like snagging a Maroons jersey at one point but he seems to be well down on form and confidence this season.
Brooks needs to be playing 5/8th - his strength is his running, he's not an organiser.
Our outside backs are the pressing issue, they are simply not good enough. Even Thompson, who I love, is more of a luxury type of player - a wily little dodger who is as quick between the ears as he is on his feet - but we need a bigger body to get our set starts rolling and who can provide more of a contest in the air.
Albeit, this is the team we're stuck with at the moment, but the future isn't completely bleak.

I would go left field and plonk Nofa at fullback, yeah he doesn't have the ball playing skills but atleast he provides a safe pair of hands at the back, tackle breaking ability and isn't a pea heart
Nofo couldn’t be any worse than Mbye’s effort last night, as captain he was a disgrace.

At the start of the year I chalked us in for the spoon. I just lined our 30 up against all of the other clubs and I thought on paper we had marginally the worst 30.
Anyway I am sure like in years gone by we will narrowly side step the spoon, but we will be bottom four possibly 2.

Iam not sure how they can do it, but they have to recruit some speed, size and skill and surround them with athletes. I look at Manly, they have four really good players mixed with youth and experience, I look at the Sharks they have so many young guns coming through. What have we got......Cleary has a lot to answer for with his recruitment.

Anyway another year down the drain

Yes, we need a new approach on how we manage the squad and contract time however, we must be careful how we manage that, Taylor was bought in to do this but as a lousy people manager and communicator, he caused untold issues. Brian Smith was another terrible communicator who did the same thing with clubs, the wrong way.

The problem is that the players that need to be moved on so the team can upgrade, are all signed for at least one more year so we can’t expect much if any team improvement until 2021..

we were competitive for half the game but they are such a good team

I reckon everyone is being drama queens on here. We weren't that bad. They have a great night. We had Marsters defending against Latrell.

This is the type of loser mentality we need to stamp out if we ever want to be a force, losing 42-12 is never ok. Well according to some of our fans it is

And to add further salt to the wounds the Roosters didn't even look like they got out of 1st gear.

We have to target guys like Matterson, guys who are road blocked at their current club by marquee players and on peanuts. We are years away from being able to attract the elite player. We also have to get some young kids with some real athletic ability. Anyway Iam sure Madge will have some pull in the market place

If we had a team full of players of Matterson's quality we would go close to winning the comp.

We just need some quality juniors to come through or to purchase some quality players. We have enough to build off and we are still coming 9th with a new coach and a few injuries to some key players.
