wes has impressed. lulia is nothing fancy, i really hope his not there next week. jimmy...f**k! he really has had an average start to the year. speed, backing up, positioning is all terrible lately. im not a fan of tolar really. brings nothing to the table. royal is a slight improvement of tolar, but still he needs to work on his discipline and overall game really, love his offloads, i really just think he needs to have a bit more of a go in defence and attack. the ability is there.

everywhere else im really happy with, particulary the halves.

patto needs to start and needs more minutes.

your thoughts?

We have a whole season to work on getting better, and the good thing is that guys like Royal with is nine firstgrade games and Dureau with his three are just some of the guys who will be improving rapidly you would think.
Even Ben Cross hasn't got much firstgrade experience and probably has a fair bit of improvement in him, not to mention - well, all the forwards except Hilder, Simmo and Bedsy and all the backs except Wes, Doogs, and Kidley.

This will be a year when we get to watch guys get better and better as the season goes on.

I'm a Royal fan and even I'd say Tolar has been playing better. Royal has a good offload but his handling and discipline are lacking.

IMO the team is looking very solid and is coming along nicely. I wouldn't be in any hurry to dump anyone apart from players coming back from injury.

I feel we are a better looking team than in the last year or two.

I'm no expert but I feel positive.

Incredible.

Tolar and Royal are the key difference between our solid middle this year, and our terrible middle last year.

Tolar, Bederus (as always) and Royal are our strength.

Wes and Lulia are doing very well imo. Better than i had expected them to be at this point. Tolar is going great as well. To be honest im a little concerned with Gidley, he seems to be struggling a little bit at the moment. The rest of the team was outstanding against Parramatta. Jimmy has had 3 great great games, does a hell of a lot of work that people are clearly missing it seems.

The service from the centres has been poor to our wingers.

McManus could have scored twice last night had Kurts pass been to his hands and Naiqama's pass likewise.

League God, your a touch blind.

Players start the season slowly - it happens - although i thought he was pretty good this game after one dodgey one.

He has always had an error or two in his game, its why i dont like him where he is. In saying that for most of last year he was fine there. He makes the same damn mistake his brother constantly made for us, he drops the f**king ball when he is playing it and it frustrates the hell out of me.

He is doing well with the ball in his hands, so much so that last night he took it on himself to take some hitups...I fear his fitness is being wasted, and its frustrating him as well. He made 3 handling errors in the canberra game, at least two in the manly game and another two last night that i recall. Its too many, he needs to sort it out.

To be fair Jimmy was not deep enough on both occasions and overran what were good passes. Aside from that though he had a solid game especially his hit ups early in the count after opposition kicks.

Spot on. McManus has been hugely impressive in this aspect in all three games. Absolutely smokes Vuna in this area. Vuna usually makes about five metres in the hit-ups off our own line, and gets hammered for his trouble. McManus regularly makes 10-12, dragging defenders with him the last few and getting a quick play the ball in at the end. Largely a benefit of the bulking up he did in the off season I dare say. He really looks powerful out there.

I think Royal will really benefit when Cross comes into the side. Cross is completely no-frills (although you can never underestimate the finesse Brian Smith adds to players' games), but he is an imposing enforcer. Royal not only has the great offloads everyone talks about, his footwork for a big bloke is really impressive. With Cross on duty as our battering ram (and possibly Sarg adding some starch as well) I think we'll really start to see these elements of Royal's game come to the fore. At the moment I'm still impressed with the responsibility he and Tolar are taking on up the centre in both attack and defence.

Don't like our centres stats from the game against Parra. In total only 8 runs for 66 metres as to Parra's 19 runs for 116 metres. The sooner Doogs comes back the better.

Our biggest weakness is giving away penalties to the opposition in their own half.

I lost count of how many piggy backs eels got out of deep in their own half but that is what cost the game. NOT the few mistakes of a handful of players at crucial times.

Yeah the worst was the great Mullen kick where we had them five metres out from their line on tackle 1 and then gave a penalty on tackle 4 and they were still only at the 30. It's frustrating.

Also I agree that Jimmy is not having a blinder as of yet but he's been solid. The hitup comment was 100% true and it gets us out of trouble a lot. Also, I still believe the Gidley pass was a poor pass more than Jimmy overunning the play.

Our biggest weakness is experience. I'm amazed how well the team has gone in the first three games this season (far better than I thought they would) We need Cross in the side and the one to go is Royal, I think Tolar has been consistantly better from the word go. Royal has a lot of errors in his game, and gives away stupid penalties. I really hope Smith sticks with the Dureau Mullen combination and doesn't de-stabalise that by switching the halves around. Our defense is the biggest single improvement absolutely no comparison to past years. I agree also Patterson has to have more game time, I can't understand why Smith uses him so little. All the talk of future captains is around guys like Kidley/Mullen etc, but I really see Patterson as a future leader, he is the type of player that sets examples and others follow, he is strong, powerfull, and very dangerous with ball in hand again he simply has to get more game time. Houston too has proven to be a great pick-up. Centre is a worry, none have impressed that much.
