Apart from Dugan we have ZERO power runners in the backline...... Farrell...no, nighty...no...Aitken....no...Peter M .....no ...Mann.....no
Nabuli was supposed to address this but proved to be the softest running Fijian on the planet....
We need some serious size in the three quarter line and some explosive power ..... They are all flat out making a line break amongst them....

But premature to judge Aitken yet. He was really improving in the last month of the season. Flo is a given on that right flank, at least for next season.

I think we need some penetration on that left edge thought, whether we move Dugan to left centre or unearth some big fast winger. We also need one lightinging quick player in the backline somewhere.

Would anyone be interested in kevin Locke. Set to be returning to the NRL. Off field dramas got the best of him in the ESL. His quite quick although he needs to shed a few kgs

I do rate Aitken I think the kid has potential but he will never have the pure physical size and speed to be a true power runner. I see him as more a rugged defensive center ongoing, and there's nothing wrong with that. But this means somewhere else in the three quarter line we need a true physical presence and power running game..

I agree, but who will fit the bill? Unless we find a diamond in the rough, we will probably just have to jig around with the current team we have.

Which is why i talked about Thommo and dugan as centres physical presence , power and great one on one defence but as most have said Thommo's centre days are over .

Two young guys that fit that profile are I thompson and Taufa from the 20/s . Both i was told are around 108kgs and the latter like a u/20s Hurrell ..Very destructive runner. Hornby moved him from the forwards into the centres

If Mann doesn't work out i would love to see Dufty if he can put on some kgs get a go . He can pass and is the lightning quick guy needed .

Not sure why as a club we seem to have no confidence in moving our juniors up . Ones who have left seem to do well when moved up at other clubs .

And as i have said if Nielson had not of been injured then sacked i don't think Aitken would have been given a crack

Another thing i would like to see next year is with the forward we will have and the ability to off load is players backing up ....Following them up the middle with the idea they may get a off load

Marmin Barba yes has speed but is a midget and cant tackle, how would he defend Corey Oates , Semi Radradra , etc he would jump and maybe come up to their knees .

What I would do is go to a athletics group an find a big fast athletic kid that can run 100m in 11 sec and convert him into a winger...... Mad maybe, but you never know...

Doesn't work 99/9% of the time. Look at Vidot for example.

With people talking about speed (ie Dino) I wonder how many tries they think are scored from outside 40m, or even 20m for that matter in the NRL these days....

Speed is great but it's not the crucial ingredient to premiership success.

Put it this way, the difference between Matuitia/Aitken and Cooper/Gaz isn't their 100m sprint times.

Speed is a big asset , tell me in our current team if there was a loose ball near our line who with confidence would be able to score a try...? The only player that could do so is now a doggie... Our current team is lacking genuine pace that can turn half a chance into points from anywhere on the field... but your ok with taking our chances close to the line, which we struggled to score points with continuous sets...

Widdop doesn't do too bad for speed - sort of did this v Titans.

.. but I agree with you, he couldn't replicate it against every team.

How often does this situation even present itself? I think it proves it's a moot point when you need to use a completely random game situation to justify the need.

FTR I would love a fast outside back, but that being said I am of the belief that we have enough strike in our team (Marshall, Dugan, Widdop, Frizell, Nightingale) to lay on points with the right structure around these guys.

Possm's rule number 26: Better to have a big fast outside back than a big slow one.

And if your interested, rule 27; Better to have a clever experienced coach (Bennett) than a rookie coach that tries his heart out to be a good coach.

There should be an addendum added to rule 27.
If such a coach isn't available or is demanding more money than the Dragons can afford, go with the next best option. And consider anyone who left the Dragons in such a mess as Bennett did, an irreconcilable enemy.

Bennett didn't leave us in a mess, or own management did.

I was just watching the Intrust super cup final highlights & marmin barbs has got speed to burn on the wing for the Ipswich jets. I don't know what his defense is like but he sure would be a handy acquisition for his raw speed & as a added bonus he can kick goals as well . Thoughts ??

Exactly. No future planning cost us, Doust and Young are the two men he should venting about not the man that came in did a job that no other in 30 odd years could do but hey lets blame Bennett for winning a comp.
